When New Zealand's rst 3D printed home rose from the ground at Brymer Heights subdivision in Rotokauri, it presented a unique challenge that required innovative thinking and a collaborative approach. For HDS, the project exempli ed how strong industry partnerships can transform complex construction challenges into outstanding project outcomes. The groundbreaking home, developed by Iconic Construction, demanded a solutions-based approach to joinery that went far beyond standard o -the-shelf products. Working alongside Iconic Construction since 2018, HDS has built a reputation for tackling such complex projects through its commitment to developing lasting relationships with construction partners. "What sets us apart is our ability to provide solutions that are not stock standard and this project was a great example," explains Steve Murdoch, general manager of HDS. "The innovative construction method of the 3D printed home required specialist expertise to devise bespoke solutions that would meet both the unique building requirements and visual design speci cations.” Says Johnny Gordon GM Iconic: “Working with an outstanding supplier like HDS Ltd to create our 3D concrete printed show home made the process seamless and easy with their solution focused mind set to get the job done right and to a high standard.” HDS's ability to provide end-to-end solutions extends beyond individual projects to multi-unit developments. The company has also collaborated with Iconic Construction on the Lake Road development, comprising 13 units across three blocks, demonstrating its capacity to handle large-scale residential projects as well as maintaining quality standards. Founded over 45 years ago, HDS has evolved into a comprehensive interior solutions provider serving the Waikato, Auckland and Bay of Plenty regions. Under the ownership of Shaun Hoskin and his partner Tash, it has expanded its o erings to include pre-hung doors, door hardware/installation, stairs/installation and wardrobe systems. The company's product range encompasses everything from traditional pre-hung doors to contemporary barn doors, cavity sliders, re doors and specialty hidden door systems. "Because the product o ering we have is comprehensive that means our customers can deal with a single supplier. This speeds up the onsite build and makes things easy for our clients, from quoting all the way through to the invoice," explains Steve. The company's partnership approach means that clients are assigned a dedicated account manager who liaises throughout the project lifecycle, arranging site measures and coordinating delivery schedules. HDS's eet of GPS-tracked delivery vehicles ensures clients receive up-to-date information on their orders. The company's production capabilities can accommodate both one-o requirements and large-scale projects. Steve says this exibility has enabled it to maintain strong relationships with construction partners across diverse project types. "We have been involved in some amazing projects over the years," says Steve. "We manufacture and deliver 40,000 doors per year; working out the 'how' is what we do." This problem-solving mentality, combined with HDS's commitment to continuous improvement and skills development, has positioned it as an integral partner in the construction process, working collaboratively to overcome technical challenges and deliver superior outcomes. "HDS's core values centre on ‘providing everyone with an opportunity to progress together’, a philosophy that extends to its relationships with construction partners like Iconic Construction," says Steve. "By focusing on mutual growth and shared success, HDS is proud to have built a foundation for long-term partnerships that bene t all stakeholders."
