On-site activity has seen the demolition of the former Trev Terry Marine premises, with substantial earthworks and now the forming of building foundations underway. Kinloch sits approximately 20km from Taupō and this development has been eagerly anticipated by the local community. It will see this previously underutilised land repurposed into a well-considered precinct that responds to both permanent residents and seasonal visitors. Colliers Project Leaders has been engaged as the project and development manager and the project is being delivered for a private client group that has a long-term, multigener‑ ational commitment to Kinloch. Our main contractor, Livingstone Building, has been doing a terrific job in keeping to programme. The weather has played its part too, with no delays to date,” says Todd. “Architecturally, the development is de‑ signed to be sympathetic to Kinloch’s natural lakeside setting. Material selection, scale, and finishes have been carefully considered to ensure durability while complementing the surrounding environment. Covered walkways, tiered indoor and outdoor seating, and strong pedestrian connections are intended to en‑ courage year-round use and support Kinloch’s growth over time.” Richard James, National Director of Retail at Colliers, has been leasing the development alongside colleague Alice Gray and says the interest in the project is pleasing. “A key driver from the outset has been to do the right thing by Kinloch by creating a de‑ velopment that is the right scale for the town. Community feedback has helped shape the retail mix and that engagement provided clear guidance on the demand for convenience re‑ tail, food and beverage, and the importance of creating a genuine social hub, not just a strip of shops,” Richard says. “The Village Kinloch delivers long‑awaited local amenity, reducing reliance on travel to Taupō for everyday shopping and services. “It will provide local employment during both construction and operation, support local businesses, and cater for the seasonal increase in population, which grows materially over peak holiday periods. “More broadly, it establishes a focal point that reinforces Kinloch as a self‑sustaining and connected community and that is incredibly exciting for locals.” With leasing well advanced, the final piece of the puzzle for Colliers is securing a flagship cafe and restaurant tenant that aligns with the character of The Village Kinloch.
