The company’s involvement in the new Mitre 10 MEGA project at Papamoa is continuing that legacy. Working alongside main contractor Naylor Love, the family-owned business is delivering a complete plumbing, gas, drainage and siphonic roof drainage package for the large-scale retail development. “Over the years we’ve been involved in most of the major builds across the Bay of Plenty,” says Craig Coxhead who founded the company in 1982. “We’ve completed work on hospitals, schools, shopping centres, supermarkets and retirement villages, and we still maintain many of those facilities today.” Now the next generation is stepping forward, with Tim Coxhead overseeing the day-to-day running of the business as general manager, while Craig focuses on governance and major commercial projects. “There’s de initely a changing of the guard,” says Tim. “But our focus remains the same - service, communication and providing clients with the whole package.” That “whole package” is one of the company’s de ining points of di erence. Plumbing Works o ers plumbing, gas itting, drainage, roo ing and maintenance services under one umbrella, allowing major contractors to deal with a single provider across multiple disciplines. “For Naylor Love it means one contractor managing everything from civil drainage and plumbing services through to specialised roo ing systems and gas work,” says Tim. The Mitre 10 MEGA development includes stormwater and sewer infrastructure around the building, pumps Next generation steps up and tanks servicing the garden centre and a sophisticated siphonic roof drainage system designed to rapidly remove water from the roof. “The roo ing system is highly engineered,” says Craig. “It siphons water away far quicker than conventional systems and all the pipework requires seismic bracketing and specialised installation methods.” The scale and sequencing of the project also created challenges for the team. “Normally a concrete slab would already be in place but on this build the structural steel went up irst,” explains Tim. “Our crews were working from aggregate surfaces at height so health and safety and planning were absolutely critical.” Plumbing Works employs quali ied sta who are continuously upskilling with new technology to plumbing systems and has its own quantity surveyors, commercial managers and site foremen. The company also has an in-house certi ied gas itter and engineer who is the commercial manager on the Mitre 10 MEGA project supporting the foreman and other sta on the ground. Its gas engineer specialises in industrial and commercial plant room design and maintenance including gas boilers, heat pumps and diesel fuel systems. While Plumbing Works has the ability to undertake large commercial projects it also o ers a full range of residential services to the general public and undertakes rural projects as well, with full design and build of water supply tank systems and OSET Certi ied waste water septic tank systems across the Bay of Plenty. Sovann serves as business director, bringing expertise in HR and business operations, while husband Stephen contributes broader commercial knowledge drawn from his experience as owner of Jumpflex, a globally recognised trampoline brand. Marly brings an accountancy background to her role as finance director. The new owners are building on a strong foundation. Regal Joinery has long been a trusted name in commercial joinery, with its portfolio spanning retirement sector developments, office blocks and large-format retail. Among its notable current projects is the Mitre 10 MEGA in Papamoa. It holds preferred contractor status with McDonald's and has just secured new contracts for a site in Hamilton, another in Palmerston North, and a project in Tahiti. It is also currently undertaking a residential housing development at Hopuhopu for Downey. In a significant step forward, the business relocated in July 2024 to a new factory at 104 High Street, Hamilton, triple the size of its previous site just around the corner. Production efficiency and quality have both improved markedly as a result, and it is now well set up for light to medium commercial contracts. Regal Joinery has just brought on a new project manager and plans to grow both its installation and fabrication teams. While it has predominantly focused on commercial work, the plan is to expand into the residential market.
