Metalcraft Roofing Auckland East Tamaki is making its mark, not just locally but across the country, particularly through its composite flooring product manufactured exclusively from the East Tamaki facility. “We have four key aspects to the business: roofing, structural, sheds and composite flooring,” says structural and sheds branch manager, Ben Knight. “It gives us a really broad offering for both residential and commercial clients. Composite flooring is delivered nationwide from East Tamaki, as we’re the only ones making it out of this branch.” The composite steel flooring division was added to the services in 2022, and has been growing ever since. Ben says the product is predominantly used in vertical construction as a replacement for precast concrete slabs, offering a significantly quicker construction method. Three profiles are roll-formed from G550 steel, zinc-coated to AS1397, and available in thicknesses of 0.75mm, 0.95mm and 1.15mm. The flagship Svelte profile has been engineered to provide excellent acoustic performance, fire protection and improved vibration-softening properties. It is delivered to site pre-cut to size and ready to fix, reducing on-site labour. A unique crushed-end option also means no end cap flashing is required during installation. To assist design engineers, Metalcraft offers an online software tool called SteelSpec, which allows users to input their requirements and instantly receive product options, designed to the latest standard AS/NZS2327:2017. Metalcraft has supplied composite flooring to Auckland Airport, completed work on Union Square in Hamilton, and has recently won the contract for the new Alfred Hotel in Blenheim. The company’s roofing offering includes an extensive range of long run roofing profiles, lightweight metal tiles, warm roofing and rainwater system solutions, such as guttering and spouting, alongside its structural range of purlins, girts and tophats. Ben says the company takes considerable pride in sourcing its steel from New Zealand Steel, using Galvsteel, Zincalume and Colorsteel Maxam across its roofing and rainwater systems. Colorsteel pre-painted steel has been protecting New Zealand homes for more than 30 years. The majority of Metalcraft’s roll-forming machines are also sourced from New Zealand manufacturers, ensuring reliable performance and consistent product quality.
