Drawing on more than 15 years of experience in the international sailing and superyacht industries, Luke recognised an opportunity to introduce a level of technical expertise and innovation that had previously been unavailable in the local construction market. Today, SRS Group is recognised as New Zealand’s first dedicated architectural rigging company, providing specialist design support, engineering coordination, fabrication, supply and installation services for projects throughout New Zealand. The company’s work can be found on some of the country’s most prominent commercial, public and infrastructure projects, where architectural rigging systems are used to support tensile structures, cable net façades, green walls, balustrades, feature lighting systems, stainless steel mesh installations and complex structural applications. “Our goal has never been simply to participate in the industry,” says Luke. “We’ve always aimed to set the standard for architectural rigging in New Zealand: we want to be the company that engineers, architects and contractors turn to when they need a solution that is technically sound, buildable and delivered to the highest standard.” Luke developed a passion for sailing at an early age and spent much of his youth racing competitively along Australia’s east coast. His professional career saw him progress through the superyacht industry, working as a deckhand, engineer, first mate and eventually captain of a 160ft sailing yacht operating throughout Europe, the Caribbean and Pacific Ocean. During this period, he gained extensive experience with stainless steel rigging systems, structural cables and precision-engineered components operating in some of the world’s harshest marine environments. After relocating to New Zealand in 2007, Luke, then managed the workshop for a yacht rigging company and further developed his technical expertise, and it was during this time that he recognised the opportunity to apply rigging principles to architectural and structural applications. That vision led to the establishment of SRS Group in 2014. Over the past decade, SRS Group has grown into a highly specialised business with dedicated architectural rigging, fabrication and design capabilities. The company works closely with architects, engineers, developers, councils, infrastructure providers and major construction companies to deliver innovative solutions across a wide range of sectors. Luke believes one of the key reasons for the company’s success has been its commitment to quality and its willingness to challenge conventional thinking. “Architectural rigging sits at the intersection of engineering, architecture and construction,” he says. “Every project is different, every solution needs to be carefully considered, and we pride ourselves on helping clients overcome challenges through innovation, experience and technical expertise.” That technical focus has enabled SRS Group to develop long-standing relationships with some of the world’s leading manufacturers and technology providers. SRS Group has a close relationship with Australian rigging manufacturer Ronstan and is also the exclusive New Zealand distributor for Carl Stahl X-TEND, the internationally recognised stainless steel tensile mesh system.
