T T Russell Fredric Apex Fencing owners Bart Muylle and Louise Mark bring complementary skills to the business and its clients, combining civil engineering expertise and a strong service focus. The couple bought the Silverdale-based company as a going concern three years ago. “We saw an opportunity to come into the trades with a really strong focus on customer service and communication, and to approach it differently from what people often experience,” Bart says. This focus has shaped how the business has evolved, combining Louise’s civil engineering background with Bart’s experience in largescale hospitality management to create a complementary structure across technical and operational roles. This has resulted in sales and technical planning sitting alongside well-managed installation crews, supported by systems designed to streamline delivery, Bart says. “We’ve put a lot of work into systemising the business – materials lists, site checklists, Health & Safety – so we can organise jobs quickly and install efficiently.” Apex Fencing’s workload is heavily weighted towards commercial projects, including large subdivision developments, warehouse builds, school projects, and civil projects. The business operates primarily across the Auckland growth corridor, from Drury through to Silverdale, but will extend further afield for larger-scale projects where the scope justifies it. The company delivers a broad range of fencing, from aluminium panel systems designed for safety and compliance through to chain-link and security fencing for commercial sites, while school projects include boundary fencing, court enclosures, and stair balustrades. Other options include motorway fence panelling in hot-dip galvanised or powder coated finishes, fall-from-heights protection, pool fencing panels, and timber fencing, such as close board palings, acoustic sound barriers, and Laminata pre-fabricated systems. Work is typically carried out under main contractors, requiring close alignment with construction programmes, site conditions, and design requirements. Early site visits, detailed measurement, and technical support, backed by clear communication, help ensure installations are delivered on schedule. These environments place a premium on project management. “We’ll often be working right at the end of a project, up against practical completion, so timelines are tight and coordination is critical,” says Bart. “We’re constantly communicating, so clients know exactly where things are at – they don’t have to chase us or wonder if we’re turning up.” A team of office staff supports the installation crews, with ongoing improvements in efficiency allowing more work to be completed with fewer resources than in previous years. Repeat work now makes up a significant portion of revenue, reflecting long-term relationships with major contractors and developers, and businesses, which rely on consistent delivery across multiple projects. “We have worked for more than 200 commercial business customers, with 100-plus years of fencing and gate experience within the company. As experts in the fencing industry, we are well-aware of how important it is to protect properties and people,” Bart says. “We see ourselves as a partner rather than just another supplier, and that’s a big reason clients keep coming back to us.” Following a slower period during late 2025, the company’s workload has accelerated sharply in recent months, with a solid forward pipeline providing confidence, despite wider uncertainty in the construction sector. Looking ahead, the focus remains on steady growth – expanding the range of products and lifting capability, while maintaining the reliability that has become a defining feature of the business. “We’re building towards the next construction upswing, growing the team and adding new types of fencing, safety and security product lines as we go.”
