Based in Cambridge, the company works across rural infrastructure, civil construction for commercial and residential projects, and transport logistics, supplying products and materials across the North Island. Its workload spans farm developments, stock underpasses, bridges, subdivisions, and commercial developments. Director Steve Curin founded the business in 1996 as a one-man operation with a truck and his trusted dog Kelly, steadily building a reputation for dependable service throughout the region. Fellow director Cam Roderick joined the business nearly a decade ago, after previously working alongside Steve. He says the partnership has helped drive a new phase of growth. “When I came on board I was employee number 13,” Cam says. “Now we have 36 staff and a much broader range of services. Part of that growth has come from bringing a fresh perspective into the business, while also leveraging the practical experience Steve has built over many years.” Both directors remain closely involved in daily operations. Steve can still be found helping mechanics in the workshop, or operating trucks and diggers on-site, while Cam manages projects, contracts, administration, and planning. Steve’s wife Jo also plays a central role as office manager. “It really is a family business,” Cam says. “We are both here at seven in the morning when the boys arrive, and often the last to leave. Being involved every day helps maintain the culture we want.” Curin Contractors’ ability to operate across multiple sectors has become one of its greatest strengths. The rural division specialises in farm infrastructure, including stock underpasses, bridges, farm races, and access work. “We have a purpose-built crew and a mobile workshop that travels the North Island installing stock underpasses and bridges,” Cam says. “Because we specialise in that type of work we are very efficient. “We can install an underpass in about two weeks,when it might take others closer to a month and a bridge from start to finish in seven days.” Alongside rural projects, the civil construction division is experiencing strong demand, particularly in subdivision development. The company is currently working on stage 1 of a 141-lot residential subdivision in Te Awamutu, with stages 2 and 3 scheduled to begin later this year. “There is a lot happening in the region,” Cam says. “Te Awamutu is growing, and there is increasing commercial development as well.” The company’s trucking and logistics division supports operations across the North Island, transporting stock feed, fertiliser, and construction materials, with additional trucks based in Tauranga and Huntly. Despite the company’s growth, Steve, Cam, and Jo say the focus remains on the people behind the business. “The success of the company really comes down to our staff and their attitudes,” they say. “They are the ones doing the work every day and representing our business on-site.”
