T T Virginia Wright Kerry Dobbyn started his company Parklane Kitchens and Interiors 30 years ago in Warkworth before relocating to Matakana in 2020. From the beginning he’s focused on bespoke cabinetry, primarily for the high-end residential market, and his highly skilled and longstanding team has now grown to five to meet the demand. “We craft a fine product which is really about attention to detail. We give every detail as much attention as we can to get the highend finish that we’ve become known for,” says Kerry. Interiors are everything inside a house: laundries, offices, wine cellars, bathrooms, dining tables, shelving units, wardrobes and more. Whatever it is if Parklane Kitchens and Interiors are crafting it the result will not only look beautiful but work perfectly, the result of decades of experience combining skill, flair and precision to bring their clients’ vision to life. Parklane Kitchens and Interiors associated projects have won numerous awards over the years and a recent architectural full interior fitout using some of the finest materials on the market is a nominated finalist in this year’s NZIA Architectural Awards. It’s exactly the sort of job that Kerry dreamed of doing 20 years ago, making the most of the combined skill-set and state-of-the-art machinery to achieve their typically flawless finish. The small three-bedroom house on a lifestyle property on the road to Tawharanui has an attention to detail that goes through the whole project from the landscaping to the bespoke kitchen, explains Kerry. “The way it sits into the environment, the materials they’ve used, the attention to detail needed to achieve the finish which looks simple, but which is designed to the nth degree. It’s a 10 on the technical scale and that level of finish is our specialty. It goes right through the house, getting the detail in the architect’s drawings exactly right, to create that seamless finish. It’s like a jewellery box, with everything working together, it’s just beautiful.” As well as the work they do with a select handful of architects and construction companies Kerry also does a lot of design work himself, especially for their regular repeat clients, managing the design and build from end to end. He’s been in business long enough for long-term clients such as Warwick Rhodes Transport and Skywork Helicoptors to become friends, he explains. “Both of those companies have been incredibly supportive right from our first year in business and we’ve had a strong working relationship for 30 years.” Over the years Skyworks have carted his kitchens to remote locations difficult to access by road while Kerry has designed and built their joinery at successive offices as well as their homes and those of their wider families. Recently he was behind the design and rebuild of the Rhodes’ fire-damaged house complete with a change of layout to make the kitchen the heart of the home seamlessly flowing out to other areas for easy family living. It’s working with his loyal and extremely talented team that makes it all possible as far as Kerry is concerned, as well as the solid support of his suppliers. After 30 years Kerry’s grateful for the work from architects and builders that have come his way, grateful for the trust shown by the clients he works for directly, and looking forward to seeing where the next project will take him.
