TJ’s Kitchen & Bathrooms have been operating since Tyrone Galloway went into business with his father Gilbert in 1996. With an apprenticeship in cabinetry and joinery behind him Tyrone had a job making and installing kitchens. When that work dried up, he was helping his father build a new family home when they came up with the idea of going into business together. Property maintenance led on to larger, higher end renovations, primarily of kitchens to begin with given Tyrone’s background, but soon extending to other parts of the house. Thanks to his father’s building skills they offered what was essentially a turn-key solution to their renovations, Tyrone explains. “We would do the whole thing under our umbrella so we would make and install the kitchen, and we’d do the flooring, the plastering, the painting, and organise the plumbers and electricians and so on, so we soon morphed into what we are now which is primarily a building-cum-project management company.” TJ’s Kitchens & Bathrooms gradually brought not only the building and installation of kitchens and bathrooms in-house but also their design so that they manage the process from start to finish. “We project manage it all, so we don’t have any more issues of dates changing or other things which were out of our control. That’s what clients like about us. We keep things very organised, have clear communication, and things get done on the day they’re meant to,” says Tyrone. Rather than dealing with what can be more than 10 separate trades during a bathroom renovation, for example, when you use TJ’s, you deal only with them. All the questions and answers go through them, and they take responsibility for all the necessary scheduling, ordering, and communication between the client and the sub-trades they’ve worked with for years. They’ve recently employed an interior designer to help clients with the oftenoverwhelming choice of colours, fixtures and fittings available and they ensure everyone’s working together to make the renovation a success. With 30 years of experience TJ’s identify issues before they happen: a fridge planned to go hard up against a wall which means it won’t open enough to get the veggie bins out, or bathroom drawers that hit the heated towel rail when opened. “We understand how people live, we’ve been doing this for years and we can make sure things flow the way they should,” Tyrone explains. While their niche is kitchen and bathroom renovations their turnkey solutions often extend to other parts of the house, especially where the kitchen flows into the dining and lounge as they often do. It may only be a question of swapping out the lighting and the flooring together with some fresh paint, or it may need a new layout, but TJ’s can and will do what makes sense to bring everything together. Renovations are complex and Tyrone relies heavily on the sub-trades as well as his own team to get it right.
