JWE Limited REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT With a history extending back to 1992, Cambridge-based JWE (John Whitehead Electrical) are experts in the manufacture, repair and supply of high performance agricultural electronic equipment. John is still at the helm of the business today, leading a team of highly-skilled electtronics technicans, supplying services and equipment not only throughout New Zealand but further afield. “We really cemented our reputation in the industry when we designed and manufactured the variable rate V3 Spreading Computer. These days we concentrate on manufacturing the V3+,” says Office Manager, Karen. The company services a wide array of industries, from spreading, roading, agriculture through to heavy plant. It also stocks or has access to parts for all the key brands servicing these sectors. “We also provide customers in the aviation sectors with electronic systems and we service these.” Karen says one of the most important reasons for the company’s success is its ability to think outside the square and to respond to customers with highly specialised needs. “With the years of experience we have, there isn’t much in the electrical and electronic systems space that we haven’t worked on.” One of the hallmarks of JWE that Karen says is really a strength is the collaborative approach that John encourages. “There’s a high level of input from all staff. We talk over all sorts of things at smoko. There are three staff in the workshop plus John and two of us keeping things ticking over in the office.” Toward the end of 2025, the workshop team were bolstered by the addition of a work experience student who had just completed school and was keen to enter an electrical apprenticeship. “He’s particularly interested in electronics so this environment is the best possible way for him to get a taste.” Work comes from all directions and it’s this variety that Karen says underpins why the business is the success it is today. “Sure we have our ebbs and flows like any business, but over the years we’ve built a reputation for delivering reliable timely solutions. “We service a range of clients across the agricultural sector, and whilst we get a variety of controllers sent to us from all over NZ and Australia, we also provide trouble shooting advice if needed.” Another strength is servicing the heavy machinery sector.
