Customers often have little understanding as to the lead-in time and the whole time-frame around constructing a pool and surrounds. It can take about two years from initial discussions to completion,” Peter says. The pool design itself and Council approval can, at times, take many months, so Peter’s advice to anyone seeking a Morgan Pool is to make contact as soon as possible. Depending on the capacity of the pool, different resource or building consents are required, but all pools need to be fenced. Under 26,000 litres doesn’t require a building consent for the pool itself. All projects are scheduled to enable the various component trades and processes to take place efficiently. Once a project gets underway, Peter says, a great deal of coordination and preparation is required. “We’re well known for the design and build capability for both pools and landscaping. Our pools are all bespoke concrete structures and often are the significant element in a larger landscape design.” And when the design and build process is pulled apart, it’s easy to see why sufficient time needs to be given to each phase. Starting with a conversation where ideas are explored, the next step is to develop a concept design, tailor-made for the pool’s situation and the client’s vision. Engineering factors are then worked through and the special items the pool requires are designed and documented. “Once building consent has been achieved, we then go into detailed processes grounded in Health & Safety, and pre-construction activities.” When pool construction gets underway, this is often the exciting time for customers. Usually it is more than a pool; it is also the surrounding hardscapes and buildings that are constructed as well. Finishing off includes fencing and attending to softscapes, before equipment is installed. The pool is commissioned, balanced and handed over to the homeowners. “We’ll explain to owners how to look after the pool and its water quality to get the very best from their investment long-term.” Renovations of existing pools are also an important activity at Morgan Pools. “Often after 15-20 years’ use, a pool is tired, and owners want an upgrade or rejuvenation of the pool itself and the landscaping. This is where we can create outstanding pools and transform existing landscapes into something owners may not have thought possible.” Peter says it’s important to stress that when Morgan Pools builds a swimming pool, it delivers a fully-functioning pool. “Invariably we encourage owners to take on a pool valet company, to really ensure the pool remains in pristine order all year round. “While fads come and go, we believe the best sanitation is liquid chlorine, but we do install many different types of sanitation solutions tailored to the pool and the owners preferences.” To assist pool owners with the multitude of pool materials and technology options, Peter is considering putting together a number of videos that detail objectively and independently the many brands who believe they have the “number 1” product in the industry. Peter believes it’s very important that consumers have access to really well-researched unbiased information so that people can learn the strengths and weaknesses of every product.
