Designed by Arcline founder and design director, Alan Simpkin, and brought to life by Rodney-based PR Builders, the completed home is being celebrated as a benchmark project for the expanding design practice. Set within a privately gated portion of the estate, the bold, contemporary home rises above rolling rural land, capturing uninterrupted views across farmland to the Pacific and out to the Hen and Chickens Islands. Alan says the project offered an opportunity to create something dramatic yet restrained, with a strong material palette that enhances the natural surroundings rather than competes with them. “We designed a beautiful big black house in the Te Arai Farm Estate,” Alan says. “There are different parts to the estate, and this home sits in a private gated community. PR Builders made a beautiful job of it. PR Builders director Peter Richards and his team brought precise craftsmanship to the complex build, continuing the company’s strong track record in architectural new homes across the Rodney and Kaipara districts. With nearly two decades in business, PR Builders has built its reputation on high-quality workmanship and strong client communication, values that have been essential to the Te Arai project’s success. The collaboration is a natural fit for Arcline, whose design philosophy has always been grounded in practical construction knowledge. Alan founded the company in 1993 as a design-and-build operation, initially planning to complete only a handful of homes each year. Demand quickly reshaped that plan. Within two years the team had delivered 44 homes, and over the following decade they averaged 20 builds annually. In 2003, the business shifted its full attention to architectural design, bringing with it decades of hands-on construction experience that continue to inform its approach. That foundation is now carried forward by Alan’s sons, Tristan and Trent, who together bring 25 years of industry experience across architecture and property development. Their insight into both design and buildability helps ensure every Arcline project is crafted to suit its site, minimise unnecessary cost, and reflect the aspirations of the client.
