Super City Construction BUILDING Clear communication and understanding what a client actually wants are at the core of how Super City Construction operates, says owner, David Court, who sees building as more than just construction – he considers himself an entrepreneur. “To be an entrepreneur you need to recognise opportunity,” he says. “And to be good in sales you need to understand what your client actually needs. The two go hand in hand.” That thinking has played a key role in the company’s growth and success over the years. By understanding a client’s goals early, David says he is often able to identify practical solutions that might not always be obvious at the beginning of a project. “My job is to understand what clients are trying to achieve, and then coordinate our awesome builders and sub-contractor network to make that happen.” Rather than leaving clients to manage multiple trades themselves, Super City Construction takes responsibility for the whole process. David acts as the single point of contact, coordinating builders, plumbers, electricians and other specialists so projects move efficiently from concept through to completion. Much of Super City Construction’s work comes through word-of-mouth referrals, something David sees as the strongest measure of whether a building company is doing things right. “When someone recommends you to a friend or family member, that means they trust the process and the outcome,” he says. That reputation has helped the company grow steadily since it was established in 2019. Super City Construction also undertakes specialist projects, such as retaining walls and driveways. “Working across both residential and commercial construction also requires a high level of adaptability,” says David. “Each project brings its own challenges, from older homes that need careful structural upgrades through to busy commercial environments where construction work must be carried out around ongoing operations. This variety is one of the most rewarding parts of the job.” Recent work has included completing an interior renovation and swimming pool for a returning client, along with structural work connected to a roofing upgrade on another property. Another recently completed project highlighting the company’s practical approach involved designing and building a two-storey minor dwelling above a double garage. The early 1900s’ bungalow-style space includes a bedroom, kitchen and bathroom with a loft area above. To maximise head height, a laminated timber mid-floor system was used so the exposed timber ceiling downstairs also forms the upstairs flooring. David says the result reduced structural depth while creating a warm architectural feature. David often develops early design ideas himself before projects move to architects and engineers. “Sometimes, clients know what they want but need help working out how to achieve it. Sketching ideas early helps people visualise the outcome and find the best solution before the detailed design begins. It’s another way that Super City Construction focuses on practical solutions, clear communication and quality workmanship.”
