Hatch Build T T Karen Phelps Elio Construction Expanding portfolio for reputable builder T T Karen Phelps BUILDING Auckland company Hatch Build has carved out a reputation as a specialist accessibility expert, delivering everything from small-scale home modifications to full new builds. Led on-site by construction manager John Hong, the company has become particularly well known for its work in disability-accessible spaces, aged care and injury-related modifications. Most of its projects are undertaken for clients referred by ACC and Veterans’ Affairs. “As Auckland’s specialist home modification team, we’ve transformed hundreds of homes into safer, more accessible spaces. Our proven expertise in accessibility modifications and dedicated focus on practical solutions has established Hatch Build as the trusted leader in this specialised field,” explains John. The company’s accessibility-focused philosophy underpins a wide range of services. It carries out bathroom modifications, such as level-entry showers, non-slip flooring, grab rails and height-adjustable fixtures. Kitchens are adapted with accessible bench heights, pull-out shelving and user-friendly appliance controls. Across entire properties, it installs ramps, widens doorways, eliminates thresholds and prepares spaces for lifts where required. Alongside essential structural work, it integrates smart home and safety solutions, including voice-activated controls, automated lighting, motion sensors and remote monitoring systems. Emergency alert and fall-detection systems, smart locks and automatic gates are also part of its offering, ensuring safety meets functionality in a seamless way. “We design for comfort, safety and style, ensuring that every project meets the needs of individuals, families and communities,” John says. “Our focus is on creating practical solutions that enhance daily living, while maintaining the character of the home.” While accessibility work forms the backbone of the business, it also builds single new homes from scratch for homeowners, property investors and residential developers. Past projects include building more than 50 homes for Fletcher Living, demonstrating its capability in delivering quality mainstream housing at scale. In addition, it undertakes developments for clients, and is currently building five townhouses in Northcote. Elio Construction has steadily built a reputation across the Auckland region for reliability, quality and delivery, and in recent years has diversified from its industrial roots into educational and residential projects. “We have got to this point organically, growing as we have built a reputation for delivery. Most of our work is word of mouth. It’s a testament to what the team does and how it delivers things,” explains director Adam Parmenter. The company has applied its strong industrial expertise to a range of educational projects. Birkdale Intermediate School saw a four-classroom teaching block refurbished in an operational school environment, requiring careful planning to avoid disrupting lessons. Peninsula Primary School received a similar refurbishment, including external courtyard works. At Central Auckland Specialist School in Mt Roskill, an administration area was transformed into a kitchen teaching space, allowing children to develop practical life skills. The work was completed in two stages, with the kitchen ready by mid-2025, and bathroom upgrades with a new hoist installed over Christmas. “The challenge generally with school projects is having to do a lot of the work during holiday periods. We have to get stuck in and get it done to ensure the least disruption as possible to the learning environment,” says Adam. Elio Construction has also ventured into residential developments. It completed an eightunit townhouse project in West Auckland for a private developer, and is currently constructing a high-end home in Takapuna overlooking Lake Pupuke. The company also continues to undertake commercial and industrial projects, including car parks, such as the 100-car facility at the Plant & Food Research Institute in Mt Eden, a smaller car park at Brookby School, and a four-storey car park in Penrose. Previous commercial projects include the Tile Space Warehouse, the Auckland Milk Depot for Fonterra, and the refurbishment of Auckland Art Gallery’s Members Lounge. “Our aim is to work collaboratively with our clients, consultants and contractors to deliver buildings and community infrastructure that is mutually beneficial to our society and the environment,” says Adam. He says Elio Construction’s approach combines building knowledge with management skills. It prides itself on doing whatever is required to meet deadlines and deliver to clients’ expectations. “A lot of our management team are builders by trade and have worked their way up to management, as opposed to starting in management and learning how to build,” Adam says. “This hands-on experience underpins a strong culture of operational excellence, enabling us to collaborate effectively with clients, consultants and contractors. We bring the skills, systems and experience of a tier 1 commercial contractor.” The company ethos is grounded in transparency and honesty, with a willingness to have difficult conversations when necessary, always prioritising the best outcome for the project. Elio Construction operates with a relatively small team of around 12 staff, usually managing two to three projects at a time. Adam believes the company’s growth comes down to relationships and delivery. We are inspired by the success of our clients, and seek to establish partnerships that extend beyond the scope of individual projects. “We have no desire to grow for the sake of growing. It’s about ensuring quality and delivery stays high.” WORLD FLOORING - Tile - Laminate - SPC - Carpet Proudly Supporting Hatch Build • Engineered Timber Flooring • SPC / Laminate Flooring • Tiles • Carpet Contact Us 021 102 0656 worldflooringnz@gmail.com 021 198 8997 | JACK@CUBE-S.CO.NZ Your satisfaction is our main priority.
