BUILDING Based in Te Awamutu and working throughout the Waikato, Roger Ramsey Building, which started in 1987, is a family-run business, with founder and managing director, Roger Ramsey, still hands on, and his wife, Justine, overseeing everything behind the scenes and keeping the wheels of the business turning smoothly. The residential building and renovation company has been built on a reputation for delivering top-quality workmanship while completing projects on time and on budget. Roger’s personal commitment is reflected in the strong relationships he forms with his clients by truly understanding their needs. “We’re a small, highly skilled crew, who care about doing the job right. No shortcuts, no excuses, no surprises,” says Roger. Roger Ramsey Building takes responsibility for the whole build, from concept to council sign-off, whether it’s building from the ground up or modernising an older home, working to make things as cost-effective as possible. A recent renovation on a bungalow just outside Ōtorohanga was no exception. The house had been in the Clark family since it was built in the early 1920s, and it had good bones, so its current third-generation owner, Murray Clark, wanted to preserve its character while giving it all the comforts of a modern home. Roger Ramsey Building essentially rebuilt the home from the inside out: a narrow hallway, typical of its day, was altered to add space to the living area, while the original back porch was converted into a scullery off the kitchen. Installing bi-fold doors further extended the living area, opening it up to the front deck and an abundance of afternoon sun. New insulation was added throughout, as the team stuck to the goal, clear from day one, to bring the home into the present, making it warm and comfortable to live in, while keeping its integrity and character. The original weatherboards were retained and renewed, and the roof updated in Hamilton 07 849 7695 Garage Door installer 20 Euclid Ave info@wds.co.nz ‘Waikato’s leading for nearly 40 years’ www.waikatodoorspecialists.co.nz Interior & Exterior Painting • Homes • Rentals • Businesses Your Trusted Local Painters Free Quotes 0274 720 424 amazonpaintingltd@gmail.com facebook.com/Amazon-Painting-Ltd-61561221570000 corrugated iron to reflect the original era. The modern aluminium windows were styled in a colonial design, and the balustrades and porch detailing rebuilt to match the period character. The true essence of the build was captured when Murray and his partner Sue chose to reuse the native matai from the bedrooms on the kitchen and scullery floors, beautifully integrating the heritage of the bungalow into their daily lives. When the team worked out that the original sleepout at the back, which they were refurbishing with a new deck and covered verandah, was too low to integrate cleanly into the overall design, they simply jacked it up to the same level and built a single generous deck to connect everything. It’s the sort of elegant and practical solution that is typical of Roger Ramsey Building, and typical of the man behind the company. As he says: “For nearly 40 years as a familyrun business we’ve built more than homes, we’ve built lasting relationships, along with a reputation for quality and reliability. When you work with us you’ll work with the same trusted people from start to finish.” From the beginning Roger’s goal has been to do right by his clients. “We show up, we listen, we give honest advice and we do top-quality work,” he says. No doubt that’s why their clients keep coming back and keep sending friends their way when they need a builder to do a job and do it properly.
