With construction now more than halfway complete, the village is set to transform the landscape of senior living in the region, says Terence Beach, Group Construction Manager at Summerset “Located close to Silverdale and the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, the development provides the perfect retirement lifestyle near beaches, cafés, shopping centres and recreational facilities. The vibe has been distinctly positive from those residents who have already moved in,” he says. A lightweight construction project, meaning the superstructure is predominantly timber, this innovative approach, combined with the village’s distinctive flat roof design and unique cladding systems, sets Milldale apart from other retirement communities across New Zealand, says Terence. Located at 50 Waiwai Drive, at the heart of Milldale lies the village centre building, which is 50 per cent complete and scheduled for completion by late 2026. It will house all community amenities alongside care and dementia suites, serving as the village’s social and practical centre. “It’s really the hub where everyone comes together,” says Terence. “In the village centre building in other villages there are always people watching movies, reading a book, meeting and chatting. It’s a hive of activity, which the residents love.” An on-site activities coordinator manages a diverse calendar of events, ensuring residents have access to everything from games and puzzles to exercise programmes and organised regional excursions.
