Rotorua Business Award: DMI Electrical Engineering T T Anne Boswell “We see ourselves as a onestop-shop for clients, with turn-key solutions for the electrical control systems of any automated plant.” REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT DMI Electrical Engineering is one step closer to realising its vision to be regarded as industry leaders with a nomination in the Primary, Manufacturing and Building Category of the 2025 Rotorua Business Awards. Founded in 2018 by director Tim Wiringi and wife Rebecca, the Rotorua-based company specialises in the design, manufacture and installation of electrical equipment for process automation. DMI is focused on delivering quality and excellence over a wide range and size of projects, with projects completed throughout New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific. While DMI’s work is highly specialised, the process automation market is vast and varied, covering any plant that uses automated processing. DMI’s expertise reaches across the timber processing, geothermal (mineral extraction and research and development), pumping applications, pulp and paper and food manufacturing industries, among others. “We see ourselves as a one-stop-shop for clients, with turn-key solutions for the electrical control systems of any automated plant,” Tim says. DMI’s structure reflects its broad skill base, with the company divided into teams of electrical engineers, manufacturers, panel builders, electricians and maintenance and service personnel. Experienced teams are put together for each project to maximise timeframes and efficiencies; this collaborative culture allows DMI to deliver seamless solutions from design through to installation. Much of DMI’s work comes via international machine manufacturers, with strategic alliances formed with companies in Germany, Austria, Canada, the US, Australia and New Zealand. “We have strong relationships with global machine manufacturers, who we work for,” Tim says. “Also, we are able to deliver high-quality installations thanks to the partnerships we have with our electrical equipment suppliers such as Phoenix Contact and Danish company Cubic. We go all in with these relationships.” Tim acknowledges that other companies can provide design, manufacture or installation services, but DMI’s ambition is to stand out. “Our teams wants to be regarded as industry leaders in its field, incomparable to anyone else,” he says. “In everything we do and every decision we make, we look to how and if we are achieving this vision, while maintaining our values.” Those values – family first, integrity, quality, consistent improvement and safety – are central to DMI’s approach. They underpin now only how the company services its clients, but also how it treats its staff. “We try to be a ‘destination’ business, where we’re not only attracting customers, but people who want to work for us,” Tim says. He says being named a finalist in the 2025 Rotorua Business Awards is “a big deal”. “For somebody external to say we have a great business and to formally recognise us for that is humbling and something we are really proud of,” Tim says. “I’m really proud of what we’ve achieved.” With a growing client base, strong international partnerships and a clear vision of industry leadership in its sights, DMI is proving that a local company can make a global impact – and be celebrated at home for doing so.
