Now the proudly New Zealand owned company operates across 18 member countries with more than 100,000 members worldwide. Scott Sherriff, who joined as Managing Director in January 2025, says three key factors differentiate the Auckland-based business from its competitors. “The first distinguishing feature is the company’s remarkable longevity under consistent leadership. It has essentially been run by the founder since the beginning,” explains Scott. Founded in 1984 by Graeme Clegg, a sheep farmer from Masterton with groundbreaking ideas about health supplements, Graeme remains chairman and very active in the business. Scott says this stability is rare in the fast-moving wellness sector, where trends shift rapidly and companies frequently change hands. The second distinguishing feature is the company’s business model, which sets it apart from conventional supplement manufacturers. “Sales mainly come from direct selling, also known as multi-level marketing. We also have our own retail brands ingredients and contract manufacturing businesses but the founder’s real passion is direct selling. “New Image succeeds because of the quality of our products and the strength of the selling network we create,” says Scott. He says this direct selling approach has proved particularly effective for international expansion, allowing the company to build committed communities of distributors and customers in multiple markets. “For example, the company recently entered into South Korea around a year ago. It’s going well and offers strong growth potential. “It’s still a great way for people to generate an income for themselves and this benefit resonates particularly well in Asian markets, where entrepreneurship and network-based business models have strong cultural acceptance.” However Scott recognises that the business model must evolve to meet changing market conditions. “In other markets we need to explore alternate channels apart from direct selling such as e-commerce and retail,” he says. “That’s a focus for the business moving forward while still leveraging direct selling where it makes sense.” The third distinctive element is the company’s focus on colostrum, where it has established itself as a market leader. Colostrum, the nutrient-rich substance produced by mammals in the first few days after birth, is currently trending in the wellness sector as consumers become more educated about gut health and immune function, says Scott. The company’s Alpha Lipid technology, which enhances the body’s ability to absorb all the benefits colostrum has to offer has proved an important innovation, crucial to the company’s success. Its flagship product, Alpha Lipid Lifeline combines 1,600mg of colostrum containing 300mg of immunoglobulins with one billion probiotics and 1,000mg of calcium per serving. In 2025, both Alpha Lipid Lifeline and Alpha Lipid Colostem received Gold Quality Awards from Monde Selection, one of the world’s most respected quality institutes. Judged by an independent panel of over 80 experts, the awards recognise products that exceed consumer expectations and demonstrate excellence across every aspect of quality, from formulation and packaging to performance and scientific integrity. New Image Group operates three manufacturing plants in New Zealand: a canning facility in Avondale, Auckland; a drying, blending and canning facility in Pukekohe, Auckland, which is its largest facility; and another dryer in Hamilton. The company employs around 230 staff in total and maintains its head office in Auckland. The business sources products locally where possible, with supplier farmers under contract. Scott says this local sourcing reinforces the company’s positioning as an authentically New Zealand brand, leveraging the country’s reputation for pure, natural products. “Today, health and wellness is the fastest-growing industry in the world,” says Scott. “Because we ensure our products are made from the purest ingredients, our growth potential is limitless.” 0800 472 2537 Northland • Auckland Tauranga • Hamilton Palmerston North • Wellington Nelson • Christchurch www.swia.nz We supply scales for all situations from weighbridges, silos, belt weighers, “in motion” check weighing, to analytical balances, electronic platform scales and price computing scales.
