Truckworks Mechanical & Engineering T T Sue Russell TRANSPORT INDUSTRY Josh Verity owns and operates Truck Works Mechanical & Engineering, based in Mt Maunganui. His love for trucks and machinery began in the shed of his grandfather, Don Verity, in Te Awamutu. “Growing up surrounded by engines, tools and the work ethic of an earlier generation meant I developed a passion for the mechanical world that has shaped my entire career,” says Josh. At just 17, Josh joined the New Zealand Army, serving for six years. During this time he completed a mechanical and engineering apprenticeship and gained invaluable experience while deployed in Afghanistan and Australia. “The Army instilled in me discipline, resilience and a commitment to high standards. These qualities are at the heart of how I operate today.” After leaving the Army and gaining further valuable experience running workshop operations, Josh returned home in 2016 and welcomed his first daughter into the family. He says that milestone inspired him to establish his own business, starting out with a van as a mobile mechanic service. In 2018 he expanded into leased premises and launched Truck Works Mechanical & Engineering, delivering professional workshop services for the heavy transport industry. “Another step forward occurred in 2023 when I acquired the former Penske workshop site on MacDonald Street, here at the Mount. I created a comprehensive ‘one-stop truck stop’ designed to meet the full spectrum of transport industry needs.” Today, the business offers an array of comprehensive services, including truck, trailer, plant and equipment servicing and repairs, COF inspections, air conditioning servicing, a tyre division, called Momentum Tyres, hydraulic repairs and servicing. “Momentum Tyres covers cars, trucks, agricultural machinery and earthmoving equipment. We also have an MTA approved small motor division, servicing and repairing utes and cars.” Mobile and onsite truck wheel alignments, an onsite truck wash and grooming service, along with accident repairs and chassis straightening complete the extensive service offering. “Our engineering division also delivers everything from general transport repairs and LT400-certified repairs and modifications to complete new builds for trucks and trailers, chassis repairs and straightening and accident damages ” says Josh. And the growth in the business doesn’t stop there! Come October, an onsite trucker accommodation space featuring showers, toilets and a café will open. “It’s a place where drivers can relax, recharge or stay overnight while their vehicles are being serviced.” Josh’s commitment to quality service and the transport industry was recognised when he received the BP Maintenance Award for excellence and dedication. “It’s an honour that reflects both my team’s hard work and the trust of our customers.” Touchless Wash Systems NZ’s Ultimate Its great to be supporting NZ Business’s Nationwide with our premium truck wash solutions!
