CONTRACTING Metalhartt Roofing Metalhartt Roofing has claimed top honours at the 2025 Roofing Association of New Zealand (RANZ) Awards, taking home Residential Roof of the Year for its standout work on a Point Chevalier new build on Oliver Street. It’s a first RANZ Award for the family-owned company, marking a milestone in its near-decade of operation. Founded in 2016 by brothers Blake and Tyler Orange, Metalhartt Roofing has built a reputation as one of Auckland’s specialist roofing companies, known for its precision workmanship on high-end architectural projects. The award-winning Oliver Street residence, designed by architect Chris Holmes of Caaht Studio Architect, pushed the limits of craftsmanship and design. The roof and cladding were fabricated from Roofing Industries’ Eurotray, a premium standing seam product supplied in partnership with Colorsteel. Combining roofing and cladding in a seamless architectural expression, the project includes a rooftop terrace, perfectly integrated wall cladding, barge and soffit details - all achieved with no visible fixings. RANZ judges described it as “a real artform” and a benchmark for precision metalwork. General Manager Ryan Horgan, who joined Metalhartt four years ago after a career managing high-end roofing projects in the UK, said every component of the Oliver Street roofing project was custom made and hand crafted. “We’re using high-end materials that take a lot of nuance and detailing,” says Ryan. All the interlocking elements around the barge and the soffits and around the dormers are all bespoke measured and custom fabricated. There are no screws, no rivets, nothing visible at all. The result is a roof and façade that gives the appearance of hugging the silhouette of the building without any means of mechanical fixing.” The installation was sequenced over nine months, requiring close coordination with multiple trades, highlighting Metalhartt Roofing’s project management strengths. “The supplier was Colorsteel, the product was Roofing Industries Eurotray, and Roofing Industries supplied custom folded panels and such.” Metalhartt Roofing’s leading hand on the Oliver Street project, Argie Manuel, has also been recognised for his exceptional craftsmanship, earning a nomination for Colorsteel Roofer of the Year. Ryan says Argie’s nomination reflects the level of workmanship and artistry he’s been able to achieve on this project. “He’s a true maestro. I describe Argie as the Michelangelo of the roofing industry.” The support of the Roofing Association of New Zealand (RANZ) and Colorsteel helped buttress the industry, says Ryan, while providing a valuable resource for its research and development. Metalhartt Roofing services span residential and commercial roofing, re-roofs, repairs, gutters and downpipes, and full project management across the Auckland region, with work often extending to Waiheke Island, Great Barrier, Mangawhai, Te Arai and beyond. Supporting the high-quality flashing needs of Metalhartt is the manufacturing business, Roll and Fold, based in Rosedale. With its first RANZ trophy in hand, Metalhartt Roofing continues to raise the bar for quality and innovation in New Zealand roofing. “We take pride in seeing an architectural vision brought to life through metalwork,” Ryan says. From initial interaction with a client to the final handover, we are custodians of a job from start until finish.” TANKING MEMBRANES LIQUID MEMBRANES SHEET MEMBRANES LEAK REMEDIATIONS CARE AND MAINTENANCE CONTACT US TODAY! info@subzerowaterproofing.co.nz | 021 278 4777 DELIVERING QUALITY WATERPROOFINGWORKMANSHIP Our specialist team are dedicated to delivering robust solutions you can trust, across all types of residential and commercial waterproofing projects.
