| 123 Preformance - Southbase Southbase’s core focus is building critical infrastructure for the government, including hospitals, data centres, correctional facilities, and in this instance, schools, above Ormiston College. BUILDING Expedite is the word, as Kishan explains: “To do the same type of building we did traditionally would probably be eight to 10 months on-site. “We were doing it in three months on-site, which is because the buildings were manufactured off-site, and that started while we were completing the design and consenting process.” Having a skilled and professional digital team combing through the design to find and resolve any issues clearly pays for itself in time saved, as does introducing automation to the construction process. To achieve the tight turnaround, Southbase worked with three modular suppliers, A-line, Portacom and Buildsmart, and helped co-ordinate them with the site-specific requirements of the individual schools. While they all had a base-line framework, the learning spaces all had to meet the specific requirements of their end teaching use, whether that was science, food technology or media studies, all with the different functionality each of those might entail. The Preformance team took the information from the ministry, the school, the Southbase Construction team, their subcontractors, and from their own site visits to arrive at a design suitable for the immediate and future needs of the school.
