The sale has grown steadily over the past nine years, cementing the McFadzean stud as one of the leading beef cattle operations in the Wairarapa. “After our first sale, once we had seen how our bulls had gone for our clients, we realised what we were doing was working and was having an immediate impact on their bottom line,” says Johnie. They do north of 60% yields in Meatmaker and Super Angus.” The McFadzean Cruizy Calves are extremely popular for heifer mating. “Heifer mating is one of those things where everyone probably knows they should do it if they can, but are nervous regarding the trouble it can cause if you use the wrong bull that is too heavy birthweight. They are getting better all the time too.” The McFadzean Super Angus are fully integrated into the station’s herds, with offspring delivering strong gains and top-notch yields.
