Karen Phelps RURAL SERVICES » KlipTank NZ With water restrictions and summer droughts becoming increasingly common across New Zealand’s farming regions, liquid storage company KlipTank is providing rural communities with versatile solutions that address both water security and environmental compliance challenges. The Tauranga-based company has established itself as a leader in bulk liquid storage since developing New Zealand’s first patented aboveground, clip-together storage tank in 2008. Its modular systems now serve farmers, orchardists and rural communities nationwide, offering capacities up to six million litres for applications ranging from dairy effluent storage to irrigation and frost protection. “The KlipTank product is unique in that it is flatpack and modular,” explains Duheine Myburgh, Market Manager - Water at KlipTank. “This design delivers significant advantages for rural customers, particularly those in remote locations where traditional tank installation would prove challenging or expensive.” He says KlipTank provides a more compliant safer, and more attractive alternative to traditional in-ground ponds. With hundreds of tanks now installed on farms across the country, KlipTank has become the recognised solution for farmers. Made from high-density polyethylene panels strengthened by galvanised wire ropes, the tanks require no concrete foundation - only a simple sand base. This eliminates costly groundwork and enables installation on various soil types including peat soils, high water table areas, and soft ground where traditional storage solutions would struggle. The tanks utilise recycled materials in construction, with all manufacturing waste recycled. Their relocatable nature means they can be moved if farming operations change, avoiding the permanent environmental impact of concrete-based alternatives. Duheine says installation time frames of just one to seven days represent a significant advantage for farming operations where time pressures during critical seasons can make extended construction periods problematic. “Farmers are increasingly looking at how KlipTank could help them to more effectively store rain or water takes from rivers and streams to cover them when conditions become dryer to give them increased water security in their operation,” explains Duheine. “Environmental compliance represents another key driver for rural adoption. As regulations around effluent management become increasingly stringent, KlipTank’s above-ground approach offers dairy farmers greater visibility and control over their waste management systems. The patented KlipJet stirring and aeration system prevents solid build-up while promoting aerobic biodigestion, reducing odours and improving effluent quality for land application.” For horticulture operations KlipTank systems provide substantial storage capacity exceeding two days of water supply, ensuring uninterrupted irrigation during critical growing periods. The tanks can be customised as opentop systems for maximum capacity or fitted with trussed roofs for potable water storage, addressing diverse agricultural requirements from frost protection to drinking water security. KlipTank also supplies wastewater storage solutions for meat processing facilities including Silver Fern Farms and whey and wastewater storage systems for Fonterra operations. The company’s support extends beyond supply, with KlipTank acting as intermediary between farm owners and their advisors to ensure seamless integration into existing farm infrastructure. With over 700 storage tanks sold since 2009 across New Zealand, Australia, and various export markets, Duheine says that KlipTank’s focus reflects the growing recognition that water security and environmental compliance require innovative, flexible solutions tailored to agricultural realities rather than one-size-fits-all approaches. • Farm Dairy Effluent • Portable Water Storage • Domestic and Commercial Suppliers to Kliptank of Tank Liners and Tank Covers COVERS 03 546 6809 | sales@tmcovers.co.nz www.tmcovers.co.nz
