RURAL SERVICES » Hyslop Groundspread After 14 years of servicing farms and families across the Waitaki district, Hyslop Groundspread is entering a new era one that keeps the same trusted team on the ground while welcoming new ownership with strong local roots. As of 1 July 2025, the business is now operating as Focus Spreading (Hyslop Groundspread), led by Andy Sales and Steph Moore - long-time farmers in the district who bring both hands-on experience and a deep understanding of the land, community, and evolving needs of modern agriculture. For Nick and Rosalie Hyslop, who established Hyslop Groundspread in 2011 and have grown it into a respected local operation, the decision to sell was about more than timing - it was about values. “When we started thinking seriously about stepping back from ownership, we knew it had to be the right people,” says Nick. “People who care about the clients like we do, who value honesty and doing a job properly, and who understand what it’s like to be on the other side of the farm gate.” Andy and Steph ticked every box. With over 15 years farming in the Waitaki region and a strong reputation for being practical, community-minded, and forward-thinking, the couple bring a farmer-first mindset to their new venture. “We’ve been farmers our whole lives, and we know the value of good service and trusted relationships,” says Andy. “We’re not coming in to reinvent the wheel - we’re here to build on the strong foundations that Nick and Rosalie have laid, and to continue meeting the needs of local farmers with honesty, reliability, and heart.” That sense of continuity is important - and not just in values. Clients can expect to see Nick and Dusty continuing in their regular roles, keeping things running smoothly on the ground. “This isn’t a goodbye,” Nick emphasises. “It’s a shift in ownership, but the core of what we do and how we do it stays the same. Dusty and I will still be the faces you see day-to-day - and we’ll be working alongside Andy and Steph to make sure the transition is seamless.” Over the past decade, Hyslop Groundspread has built a loyal client base through hard work, strong communication, and a commitment to getting things right the first time. That reputation is something Andy and Steph don’t take lightly. “The industry is shifting,” says Steph. “Farmers are under more pressure than ever to meet environmental and compliance requirements, while still running productive and sustainable businesses. We see our role as part of that support system - helping clients stay ahead of those challenges and doing it with integrity.” With the change now official, clients are encouraged to continue contacting Nick or Dusty as usual. Andy can be reached on 021 564 017, and Steph on 021 564 016. “We’re proud of what this business has become,” says Nick. “It’s been a privilege to serve this community, and we’re excited to see it continue in the capable hands of people who live here, understand farming, and care deeply about doing things right.” One chapter may be closing, but the heart of Hyslop Groundspread remains firmly in place - with the next one already underway.
