Roman Building and Construction T T Kelly Deeks BUILDING Roman Building and Construction is continuing a steady two-decade growth trajectory in Christchurch as it takes on increasingly complex projects, including a nine-townhouse development on Wharenui Road that showcases the company’s technical capability and attention to architectural detail. Founded and led by Roman Chan, the business has evolved from small residential work into a diversified construction company delivering residential/commercial developments, shop fit-outs, renovations, landscaping, and full design-and-build solutions across Canterbury. The Wharenui Rd project reflects that progression, with Roman Building and Construction appointed as the main contractor on a tightly detailed, architecturally driven townhouse development. Roman says the Wharenui Rd build has presented a series of technical challenges that go beyond a standard townhouse project. The nine modern homes feature complex rooflines with multiple angles, requiring a high level of precision to achieve both the architectural intent and the performance requirements of the design. “The roofing on this project is quite exciting, but also demanding,” Roman says. “There are a lot of angles and you need to be spot on. It’s been designed that way for the architectural aesthetic, but also to manage solar recession, allowing sunlight in during winter, limiting excess sun in summer, and making sure neighbouring properties aren’t shaded.” That level of consideration has carried through to the exterior envelope, with a mix of materials used to create visual interest and durability. The cladding package combines brick, Colorsteel, and cement board, resulting in a layered façade that is both contemporary and robust. “The cladding is probably one of the most interesting parts of this job,” Roman says. “It’s more time-consuming because of the multiple materials and detailing, but it looks really good. It’s challenging work, which we enjoy.” Construction is tracking towards completion around April to May, with the project adding to a growing portfolio of medium-density residential developments delivered by the company. Roman says demand for well-designed townhouses in established Christchurch suburbs continues to grow, particularly where developments are carefully integrated into existing neighbourhoods. While the Wharenui Rd project highlights the residential side of the business, Roman Building and Construction also maintains a strong presence in the commercial sector, with the company delivering high-quality carpentry and construction works on a range of prominent projects. From its formal establishment in 2017, the company has grown to a team of 18 builders, supported by dedicated administration and project-management staff. That growth has enabled Roman Building and Construction to offer end-to-end services, from renovations and custom homes through to full commercial builds and landscaping packages. Roman says the company’s focus remains on quality workmanship, transparent communication, and building long-term relationships with clients. “We take pride in our attention to detail and making sure the finished product not only looks good, but performs well for years to come,” he says. With projects like Wharenui Rd nearing completion and a solid pipeline of residential and commercial work ahead, Roman Building and Construction continues to cement its position as a trusted Canterbury builder capable of delivering technically demanding, architecturally refined developments. admin@superslab.co.nz 021 221 1884 Proud to support Roman Builders Ltd Proudly Supporting Roman Builders Ltd www.easybigtrees.co.nz write Where Summer stories sunlight and outdoors se war tones Autum gardens
