The Pavilion will form the heart of the village, offering a state-of-the-art hub for recreation, wellness and social connection. “The Pavilion has been designed to integrate seamlessly with its surroundings while providing an exceptional living experience,” says Simon O’Dowd, Managing Director of Qestral Corporation Limited. “We’ve drawn inspiration from Frank Lloyd Wright’s principles of organic architecture to create spaces that are open, light-filled and flexible.” The Pavilion will build on the reputation of Qestral’s award-winning Burlington Village Pavilion, also located in Christchurch, which recently received top honours at the 2025 New Zealand Property Council Awards. While delivered to the same high standard, the Banbury Park Pavilion features its own distinctive design, says Simon. “Those awards reflect the standard of excellence we aim to maintain at Banbury Park,” he says. “We are bringing the same attention to design, resident wellbeing and community experience to this new project.” Located in the historic Halswell area, just nine kilometres south-west of Christchurch city centre, the Banbury Park Pavilion will feature a wide range of amenities. Residents will enjoy a movie theatre, indoor heated swimming pool, spa, restaurant, café, bar, bakery, massage room, hairdressing salon, gymnasium, library and dedicated wellness centre. A custom commissioned clock tower at the front of the Pavilion, allowing residents to see its inner workings, will be a signature feature. The building will also include 18 apartments, each with its own balcony or private deck. A variety of layouts, with sizes of up to 110m², will provide a spacious and comfortable environment for residents who do not wish to downsize excessively, says Simon. People are welcome to register on a waitlist and be notified when the apartments are released to the market. The Pavilion will also host Qestral’s award-winning TRILife Wellness Programme, which delivers a holistic approach to resident wellbeing. Qestral enjoyed international recognition winning the prestigious 2025 Eldercare Innovation Award for its TRILife Wellness Programme at the 2025 World Ageing Festival in Singapore attended by more than 6,000 delegates from over 50 countries. “TRILife is central to what we offer at Banbury Park,” says Simon. “It focuses on physical health, social engagement and mental stimulation, ensuring residents can continue to grow and enjoy life fully.” Banbury Park spans 14 hectares and has been designed to challenge traditional retirement village concepts. “Our goal is to create a community, not just a collection of buildings,” says Simon. Most homes are stand-alone, with a variety of sizes and designs, wider roads, and generous green spaces surrounding each property. Innovative landscaping, gardens and sculptural features give each home a distinctive character. The village offers a diverse mix of housing including two- and three-bedroom homes with single or double garages, walk-in wardrobes, ensuites, tiled entranceways and French doors opening onto living and dining areas. Independent residents can also opt for the ‘Butler’ service, an intermediate care package providing telehealth assistance, weekly housekeeping and nutritious meal delivery to support independence at home. Banbury Park also includes a single-storey care facility providing rest home and hospital-level care, along with a separate dementia facility. Simon says the design allows for seamless transitions between care levels, helping to maintain familiar staff and continuity of relationships. Qestral also prioritises social connection through a varied programme of activities. Residents currently enjoy specialty evening events and cooking classes. Simon says that once complete, the Pavilion will further enhance the programme at Banbury Park by hosting premium events such as live music, gala nights and guest speakers.
