In a town best known for its adventure highs, a new wellness experience is quietly bubbling away. Queenstown’s first centrally located hot pool destination, Bathe by Aluume, is due to open in late August, and planted firmly in the middle of town, on Brecon Street, it will bring a fresh twist to a classic alpine ritual. Located just minutes from bars, restaurants, shops and the Skyline gondola, Bathe is set to offer visitors and locals alike a chance to step off the streets and into a spa-like sanctuary with breathtaking views of surrounding gardens and up to Coronet Peak. Six pools will open as part of stage 1 of the development, including one communal pool, two canopy-view pools, and three mountain-view pools – all aimed at delivering intimate group experiences. The communal pool caters for up to eight people at a time, while private pools are designed for up to four, though founder Tim McMahon expects most guests to arrive in pairs. “If you’re looking to enjoy a quiet moment, or if you’re looking for something a bit more social, with both private and communal pools, there’s an option for everyone,” he says. “All of it with the added convenience of its central location.” The pools themselves are something special – designed in Tauranga and craned into place earlier this year. “The finish on them is a modern plaster with some waterline tiles, and the concrete has an earthy, robust feel, rather than the stainless steel and cedar-clad ones, which delivers a much more elevated look,” Tim says. Most of the pools are 1.3 metres deep, while the communal soak stretches to 1.8 metres for full immersion. The on-site experience will also include non-alcoholic, health-focused beverages and snacks, with pricing designed to reflect Bathe’s premium, yet accessible feel. A one-hour session in the communal pool will cost $55, while private pool experiences will start at $95.
