We stand by our values every day as a 100% locally owned, family-owned business.” T T to page 52 REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Family-owned CMT Group has made a considerable impact in Marlborough and Canterbury over the past three decades, both as a local employer and a skilled contractor providing a diverse range of services. Hard-hat mahi and a focus on people and community has seen the business evolve and grow through the years from a humble paving business to a multi-service powerhouse spanning civil work, landscaping, paving, commercial and residential construction. Back in 1996, Jonathan Faulkner was a young, hardworking family man with a newly launched concrete paving business called Conpavers. Equipped with truck, wheelbarrow shovel and rake – and a tonne of drive – Jonathan soon landed his first commercial job paving a small street in Blenheim. Two years later, Conpavers had grown to a three-man team with a fast-rising reputation. Many memorable paving projects were to follow in the region, including the Queen Charlotte lookout (2007) and London Quay (2009). By 2010, Jonathan had purchased Total Tactilez (now Haptix architectural safety-scaping) before acquiring MC Construction the following year. Finally, in 2018, all three brands were amalgamated into one as CMT Group. Today, CMT’s civil capabilities span new subdivisions, large earthworks, commercial roading, and drainage projects. In commercial construction, CMT is equipped for projects anywhere in the South Island – from architectural new builds to shop fit-outs and prefabrication. Haptix by CMT Group supplies and installs innovative accessibility solutions, offering a range of tactile indicators, stair-nosings, floor trims and more. Jonathan’s eldest son, Anton, was only seven when his father launched Conpavers, and like his younger siblings, grew up around the family business. He recalls biking to various landscaping sites after school or in holiday breaks to lend a hand. After leaving school at the end of 2005, Anton joined his father at Conpavers, and gravitated to the evolving civil works side as a qualified drainlayer. Today, he’s CMT’s contracts manager and brand manager. By 2008, his brother, Jayden, had joined the team. A few years later, he stepped up to lead Total Tactilez and to grow non-slip tactile safety and architectural products and services as a part of the business. Their youngest brother, Kenley, is a qualified drainlayer, who joined the business in 2012 and today serves as operations manager for CMT’s construction and civil services. All three brothers are company directors, who co-own the business with their father and work closely with CMT’s senior management team. Their youngest sibling, Rochelle, is CMT’s administration manager. Also working in the family business is their cousin, Dale, who has been with CMT since 2001, and today works as sales territory manager (Haptix). www.eckford.co.nz 1 Auckland Street, Blenheim .
