It allows us to identify efficiencies early and avoid the pitfalls of trying to coordinate multiple parties.” This approach has seen PBI Electrical trusted on a string of high-profile projects in recent years. The team recently completed the Scania truck-servicing facility in Hastings, delivering all electrical and associated trades for the purpose-built facility. They also carried out the full design-and-build package for a new boat showroom and workshop in Yaldhurst. Currently, PBI Electrical is working on the new Mitre 10 MEGA on Prestons Road in Christchurch. This is a significant development that highlights the company’s capacity for large-scale, complex builds. Past projects include the Marlborough Inland Port at Riverlands, The Alex Apartments complex in Queenstown, a number of large freight warehouses around Christchurch, and multiple Woolworths supermarket developments. Brendon, who has worked in the electrical contracting industry for nearly 40 years, says while technology has advanced over the decades, particularly with the rise of LED lighting and sophisticated control systems, the fundamentals of good electrical design remain the same. “LED lighting was a big leap forward about 10 years ago, and those systems continue to improve,” he says. “We’re also seeing advancements in control systems and a move towards more electronic solutions, but the core principles of electrical work haven’t changed since electricity first came out.” Innovation is a key driver for PBI Electrical, particularly in the area of renewable energy and energy efficiency. The company has delivered a 41kW DualSun/PV solar system for Lochlea Lodge in Ashburton – demonstrating its capability in solar integration.
