Located at Perriam Cove by Lake Dunstan, the new wellness centre and spa - opening on July 11 - has been designed to deliver a whole new level of Scandinavian-style luxury and relaxation to New Zealand’s wellness scene. For Pure Senses founder, Anthony Robertson, who previously built and managed Lake Resort Central Otago’s iconic collective of 24 over-water villas, which neighbours this latest venture, it represents the culmination of a long-held vision. Wellington’s Wētā Workshop creators have been working with Anthony to achieve the atmosphere he wants for this exciting new wellness and spa experience. “For me, it’s great to finally get the last piece of the puzzle underway and tracking towards completion,” says Anthony, who also created and operated the award-winning Moorings Restaurant and Events venue. “We expect to have Pure Senses’ first stage open and operating by mid-July. It will include a traditional sauna outside with cold treatments, as well as a red light infrared sauna inside, plus private treatment rooms and a beautifully lit space with nice seating where people can go after their treatments and relax for as long as they want to. “We’re trying to cater to everyone, so you’ll be able to chill out with a healthy smoothie or a cocktail or a glass of Central Otago wine. Rather than this being somewhere to simply go for a treatment and leave straight afterwards, we’re aiming to create more of an experience and targeting an international standard.” A central reception area will look after the various private businesses operating out of the new centre, in turn keeping costs down for all involved. The menu of treatments includes Japanese head spa, massage, waxing, body wraps and more. One of the rooms at Pure Senses will be used flexibly for a variety of purposes, from Pilates and yoga classes to small group meetings. Anthony created the original layout, look and feel, with the final design drawn up by local architect Jessie Sutherland, of SA Studio. Stone, natural timber and warm tones complement the beautiful Central Otago setting. Vertical timber battens on external windows are a stylish touch on the street-facing side, while delivering privacy for the interior. With solar panels and automation technology, the building has also been designed to be as energy efficient as possible. “People are already walking in and getting that wow factor,” Anthony says. “The building is designed to draw you in and, once inside, it’s a space you will want to stay in – it’s a hideaway from the world. “The wellness sector has traditionally focused on women, but we’re hoping to entice men to come along too, even if it’s just to have a drink and take a look around.” Adding to the sense of tranquillity is a central waterfall feature towards the rear of the building. Eleven separate private mineral pools are also set to join the luxury layout towards the end of 2027. “It will be like going into your own rock grotto with natural rock pool,” Anthony says. “Each will have private shower and change room facilities. The pools themselves will be partially roofed over, but open to the sky so you’ll be able to sit there, soak and look up at the stars. “We’re lucky to have Wētā Workshop on board, whose team has helped design the pools’ area. Their expertise is also evident in our first stage that includes shaped rock features and the lovely waterfall.” Pure Senses is very much targeting the New Zealand market, with strong uptake expected from cyclists exploring the region’s many trails. Anthony will manage the new world-class wellness centre and spa with partner Lara Cunningham, in conjunction with the facility’s private treatment operators. www.arrowtowntradeservices.com 4 Bush Creek Road, Arrowtown, New Zealand | matthew@pbsnz.com | 022 3409017 We’ll Pump It !
