| 19 T T Emma Bailey Bathing in accolades for its pools Marlborough Pools & Spas walked away with five awards from the 2025 New Zealand Swimming Pool and Spa Association (SPASA) Awards - including the Gold Award winning pool for Renovation over $80,000. Marlborough Pools & Spas REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT It was their first time entering and Marlborough Pools & Spas walked away awash with five awards from the 2025 New Zealand Swimming Pool and Spa Association (SPASA) Awards - including two golds. Trading as Marlborough Pools & Spas under the Mayfair name, Mike and Lee-Anne Freeth have owned the Blenheim-based business since 2000. “We went to the awards last year and thought this year we should enter some of our pools. It was nice to get recognised on a national level. We came up trumps,” Mike said. At the Auckland Gala in August they were the Gold winner at the 2025 SPASA NZ Awards for Renovation over $80,000 and named a finalist at the Australasia finals. Last year they opened a new store on Grove Road in Blenheim and this earned them Gold for the new pool shop award. Their daughter Danielle Freeth, who joined the business in 2023, was highly commended in the Rising Star Award. She was recognised for her extensive knowledge and passion for all things pool-related. They were also highly commended in the Renovation up to $40,000 section and the Courtyard / Small Pool up to $80,000. The Gold winning pool for Renovation over $80,000 was based in Nelson. “It was an old concrete pool that had failed and had extensive earthquake damage. We completely refurbished the pool and sprayed a new fibreglass lining, guaranteed to last decades.” The judges noted the durable fibreglass lining, extended lounging step, sleek terrazzo paving, and a fresh deck to the pool house which resulted in a low-maintenance, high-impact upgrade made for everyday enjoyment and effortless entertaining. Mike is passionate about fibreglass pools. “I stay away from concrete pools; several things can go wrong with them and fibreglass is a superior product especially as it’s flexible - ideal for Marlborough with the earthquakes.” The winning pool in the Renovation up to $40,000 section was in Elaine Bay in the Marlborough Sounds. While the clients were very happy with the overall design of their old pool, they knew that in order to enjoy it for many more decades to come, this pool needed a Mayfair refresh, with a fibreglass lining to make it shine and stand the test of time. Their Blenheim entry in the Courtyard / Small Pool up to $80,000 was commended for providing a perfect solution for the client who wanted a custom pool built to fit that awkward corner space between their home and boundary fence. The bespoke solution resulted in a stunning pool which ticked all the boxes.
