Connetics REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT T T to page 32 A critical electricity infrastructure project is taking shape in West Rolleston, with significant progress being made on a new zone substation that will provide essential power supply to one of Canterbury’s fastest-growing residential areas. Connetics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Orion NZ Ltd which provides electricity distribution services across central Canterbury, is undertaking the complex works required to establish the Rolleston Zone Substation. Connetics delivery and project manager, Jim Reeve, says the project, located on a greenfield site on Burnham School Road, at the western edge of the Rolleston township, represents a substantial investment in the region’s electrical infrastructure. “The Rolleston Zone Substation is essential for meeting the surging demand from one of the region’s most quickly expanding communities,” he says. “This is a complex, multi-phase project that requires careful planning and execution to ensure we deliver reliable infrastructure that will serve the community for decades to come.” The project involves several intricate stages of work, with Connetics progressing through the installation of high-voltage cabling systems. The company has installed 66kV cables, which form the backbone of the station’s connection to the wider electricity network, though termination work - the process of connecting the cables to equipment - is still ongoing.
