Established in 2005 and backed by more than a century of combined industry experience, Feldspar has grown from a small team managing local developments to a multi-sector consultancy delivering complex projects across New Zealand and beyond. Founding directors David Booth and Joff Riley agree the company’s success is a result of staying true to its original vision. “When we started Feldspar, our focus was on providing strong, practical project management for clients who wanted more than just a consultant - they wanted a partner,” Joff says. “The scale and complexity of our projects have grown immensely, but the essence of how we work - collaboration, integrity and accountability - hasn’t changed.” David agreed, adding the company’s success was an “evolution built on relationships and trust”. Feldspar’s role often begins long before the first sod is turned. The team helps clients test feasibility, build business cases, and secure funding, setting projects up for success from day one. “Increasingly, we’re involved right from the start, sometimes even before the site is secured,” Joff says. “That early input ensures the project’s strategic and financial foundations are sound before any design or construction begins.” From there, Feldspar remains involved every step of the way. “That continuity, from concept through to completion, gives clients confidence that decisions made early on are followed through consistently,” David says. With expertise spanning project and construction management, project planning, feasibility studies, health and safety, asbestos management, risk assessment, and compliance, Feldspar brings a complete view of the project landscape. “It means we can see the whole picture,” David says. “Understanding these critical project elements allows us to integrate all those perspectives early and avoid surprises later.” Joff says it also makes the team more agile. “Whether it’s risk assessment, compliance, or project delivery, our team can adapt quickly because the expertise is already within the organisation.” What sets Feldspar apart is its balance of scale and personal service. “We have the depth and capability to handle complex multi-million dollar projects, but we’re still hands-on. Clients work directly with senior people, not layers of management,” Joff says. And, the team is genuinely independent, David added. With almost 200 consultants across 10 offices throughout New Zealand, SLR brings together technical, advisory, and sustainability expertise to support complex environmental and planning projects. We work alongside trusted partners like Feldspar to deliver integrated, end-to-end outcomes. We bring clarity and accountability to every stage of development, and together, we’re Making Sustainability Happen. Big challenges need specialist solutions. Feldspar has found that it is that trust that has helped it retain long-term relationships across the public and private sectors, with much of its work coming from repeat clients, along with referrals. Over the past 20 years, the construction industry has evolved dramatically, enforcing changes Feldspar has had to embrace as opportunities, rather than hindrance. “The level of regulation and compliance has increased hugely, especially around safety and environmental standards,” David says. “Rather than seeing that as a burden, we’ve embraced it. It’s lifted the overall professionalism of the industry.”
