Canterbury Balustrade, based in Sydenham, has been around for about 20 years, growing steadily over the years with quality and service delivery being the focus. Along with balustrades, pool fences & handrails they offer outdoor heat pump covers, privacy screens and wind breaks. The company’s clientele covers the commercial and residential construction markets “about evenly,” says Sales and Project Manager Hamish Gillespie. From a base in Wordsworth Street that serves as office, showroom and fabrication plant, Canterbury Balustrades runs installation teams that are constantly on the road, supported by the team back at base. “There’s no doubt the market is back on the rise after being a little flat throughout the winter – it was one of the quietest periods we’ve known.” “But the sun’s come out, and the immediate outlook is very positive, and our ten staff are working flat-out,” Hamish says. Canterbury Balustrade offers a complete range of balustrade and associated products, including framed, semi-framed and frameless toughened glass, with stainless steel or powder-coated aluminium componentry. The buildings in which it has installed balustrades and handrails cover the whole range of commercial and residential construction, from schools to apartment blocks, sports stadia, to architectural homes, social housing and boutique hotels. The company’s services include balustrades, pool fences, handrails, safety barriers, windbreaks and screens between floor levels. Mike Sarjeant, who now serves as Construction and Engineering Manager, launched the company 20 years ago on his own, and has steadily built it up over the decades, being joined five years later by Hamish in a management and sales role. Recently Chris Langford, with 10 years’ service to the company, and Sam Webster, with 30 years of manufacturing and construction experience, have bought shares in the company. They bring renewed enthusiasm for growth and securing the future of the business and are aligned with the original values of quality and service delivery.
