| 85 BUILDING Andrew Allen Building A key feature is the ability to section off one end of the home, which allows the owner or occupier to contain day-to-day use of the house to one area, leaving three of the bedrooms, bath and toilet segregated. “We are all very hands-on, on each job,” Andrew says. With two licensed building practitioners and two apprentices, the company is able to run two major projects simultaneously, while still taking on smaller renovations such as kitchens, bathrooms, and reclads. For the team, meeting the expectations of today’s buyer comes down to strong collaboration throughout the sector, including with subtrades and a great designer. Flexibility is also offered for early purchasers. “If a buyer is to purchase a home before completion, there is the option for flexibility,” Andrew says, which can include choosing fittings, appliances, floor coverings and paint colours. Like many building companies, Allen Building has navigated the hurdles that have come with rising material costs. The best way forward is to work with them, adapt the products you are using, and your designs, Andrew says. Looking ahead, Andrew is enthusiastic about expanding his company’s spec home offerings, while continuing his team’s great work completing renovations and maintenance projects.
