ARCHITECTURE KLT Architects T T Kelly Deeks “It’s exciting to see our Marlborough Ridge project now come to completion. It really reflects what we can offer when we’re involved in every aspect of a build.” The completion of a standout residential project at Marlborough Ridge has capped off a busy period for Blenheim-based architecture firm KLT Architects, which continues to grow its reputation for delivering considered, high-quality residential, commercial, and education designs throughout the region. Led by director Keryn Thompson, KLT Architects offers a full-service approach, from architectural design and spatial planning through to joinery, lighting, and colour selections. Keryn established the practice in mid-2021 after more than 20 years working for a Wellington firm, and her wide-ranging experience has helped build a strong and flexible offering across the residential, commercial, and educational sectors. “We enjoy the variety and being able to work closely with clients across different types of projects,” Keryn says. “It’s exciting to see our Marlborough Ridge project now come to completion. “It really reflects what we can offer when we’re involved in every aspect of a build.” Designed for entertaining, the substantial Marlborough Ridge home is set on a 3000sqm site and takes in sweeping views across the Fairhall area. The stunning 600sqm home features a generous kitchen, dining, and living zone opening to multiple outdoor living spaces, a private upstairs master suite accessed via stairs or lift, and bold exterior detailing with Corten steel accents, aluminium fins, and textured finishes. “This was a full-package design, from the exterior architecture through to interior joinery and material selections,” Keryn says. “Abi Balasoglou, our spatial designer, was involved from the outset, helping to create a cohesive, bespoke finish.” The KLT team has recently grown to four with the addition of Sophia Hammond, who is architecturally trained, and is focused on documentation and technical design. The expanded team has enabled the firm to take on a growing workload, including a new project in Rārangi that again sees KLT delivering both architectural and full interior design services. While residential projects make up a core part of the firm’s portfolio, KLT also has strong capability in educational architecture. Keryn previously worked extensively on school projects in Wellington, and has continued that focus in Marlborough, recently completing upgrades to Mayfield School hall. “The school hall hadn’t been touched since the 1970s. It still had the original wallpaper in the kitchen, all brown and dark, and the hall had no connection to the school. “We reconnected it to the rest of the school with new, low-level windows, and transformed RESIDENTIAL, COMMERCIAL, ARCHITECTURAL JOINERY, KITCHENS, TIMBER DOORS, WINDOWS & STAIRS, INTERIOR DOORS, CUSTOM FURNITURE & VANITIES, TIMBER MACHINING & MORE P 03 5794004 M 027 3261485 3 MURPHYS RD BLENHEIM Your one-stop professional building service in Blenheim. We work to understand what the space needs to achieve and how it can best support the people who will use it.” As well as architectural and spatial design services, KLT offers feasibility studies and site-suitability assessments, helping clients get the most out of their sites and budgets from the outset. Keryn is also committed to energy-efficient design, having received NZIA recognition in 2022 for a passive house-certified commercial building in Blenheim, the first of its kind in the South Island. With new projects on the go and a tight-knit, multi-skilled team, KLT Architects continues to grow its presence in the region. “We’re proud to be a Marlborough-based practice and we love contributing to the built environment here,” Keryn says.
