A luxury five-star-plus resort in Queenstown’s Arthur’s Point, Coronet Ridge Resort is New Bay Group’s third offering at the more sophisticated end of New Zealand’s tourism market, following Auckland’s Rydges hotel and Wellington’s WQ hotel. “We fell in love with the site’s spectacular setting in 2022, and wanted to turn it into a sought-after destination for discerning travellers from around the world,” says New Bay Group’s executive director, HC Tan. The resort is led by general manager, Ethan Heng, whose extensive hospitality expertise has been integral to bringing the new property to life. From its position perched above the Shotover River, the 41-room resort’s guests can enjoy expansive views of the river, or watch the sun set over the nearby mountains, in a carefully designed and built combination of awe-inspiring scenic outlooks and refined luxury. Clare Davies, managing director of Capstone Hotel Management, who managed the transformation and is responsible for the day-to-day running of the resort, says its multi-million-dollar makeover is matched by an equally exceptional guest experience. “Coronet Ridge Resort is a truly extraordinary property, and we are privileged to be entrusted with its management,” Clare says. “Our team is dedicated to delivering an experience that reflects the ambition and vision of New Bay Group, where every guest feels the magic of this remarkable location from the moment they arrive.” As well as offering panoramic views, the resort aims to blend luxurious relaxation for its guests with easy access to the nearby adventures Queenstown is famous for. Resort amenities include a conference space for up to 30 people, a Roman-inspired day spa, outdoor hot tubs, a fitness centre, squash courts, and an exclusive private cinema. The extensive refurbishment made the most of the existing footprint from the former hotel. Spacious rooms with layered textures and an alpine-inspired palette combined with natural timber panelling and bespoke joinery are tailored to the independent traveller looking for somewhere exceptional to stay. “Unusually for Queenstown, we’re averaging a three-night stay, which is long even for here, where obviously there’s so much to do, so that’s fantastic, and we have a lot of high-end international guests: American, British, and Australians as well as Kiwis,” says Clare. Built into the resort’s offering is the opportunity for locals to come in and enjoy the views from its Elevation Restaurant and Bar along with the guests, Clare explains. “Exceptional views of the Wakatipu Basin, the Remarkables, and the Shotover River accompany a seasonally inspired menu from executive chef Dominic Dsouza, who’s always showcasing the best local produce.” Ten minutes away in one direction is Queenstown’s centre, with the airport another five minutes further on. In the other direction, it’s only 13 minutes to the world-renowned Coronet Peak ski area, making Coronet Ridge an ideal apres-ski stop for those looking to enjoy an evening by the Library Bar fireplace, if it’s too cold for alfresco terrace dining. In the years since Nugget Point was in its heyday, a thriving community has evolved on its doorstep with great food, craft beers and excellent coffees, along with the bike trails and bus services that help visitors minimise their impact whilst getting around. With Queenstown experiencing a steady increase in demand from both international and domestic visitors, Coronet Ridge is a timely and welcome investment in the local economy, offering an unforgettable experience of alpine luxury, in one of New Zealand’s most outstanding locations.
