A planned invitation-only event will celebrate the company’s history and contribution in road transport engineering, as well as highlight the breadth of its current operations and future vision. Established in 1976 by Bruce Currie, his son Ross, and Wally Adams, the company’s founding focus was on supplying high-quality tipping trucks, trailers, flat deck bodies and other custom solutions to the South Island market. Under the subsequent stewardship of long-serving directors Pat Lagan, Peter Laurenson and Keith Robinson, Adams & Currie continued to evolve and grow as a trusted name in road transport manufacturing. Two years ago, an exciting new chapter started for Adams & Currie, with ownership passing to Jeff and Yvette Mear of Fruehauf New Zealand Ltd. “Last year, we moved to new premises at 15 Parkhouse Road, Wigram,” says General Manager Jon Doyle. “The catalyst for the change was wanting to expand into service and repair jobs. Historically, Adams & Currie has been a new build specialist with a South Island focus,” he says. “Jeff, who is managing director of Fruehauf Group, was wanting to have a service and repair outlet in the South Island. “It has been a big milestone for him to be able to offer that to national customers doing long haul general freight and it has now become an important component of our business.” Alongside the new dedicated service and repair centre, Adams & Currie continues to supply new builds to meet the needs of the construction sector. “We also have a fast-growing separate division based around the refrigerator trailer market, dealing with large national operators such as Big Chill Distribution, Foodstuffs and Hall’s. We’re the New Zealand agent for Cargobull in this region and have two specialist refrigeration technicians doing fieldwork and on-site repairs.” When the last previous director Peter Laurenson retired in March, he left with the assurance that Adams & Currie is performing well and targeting growth across the board. “We have a diversified portfolio, working with corporate players such as Citycare and have wonderful relationships with companies like Fulton Hogan, Frews Contracting, Downers and TWT Transport,” says Jon. “My focus is on further building and strengthening our customer relationships. “We’re expanding what we offer to appeal to a wide customer demographic; we can now service any trailer that comes into the yard.” Jon describes their new owner as a legend in the transport industry whose career goes back nearly 40 years. With Adams & Currie now in the stable, the Fruehauf New Zealand group continues to grow from strength to strength, today employing around 180 staff in total. “Jeff’s innovative vision and commitment to forward leading investment is what attracted me to join Adams & Currie as general manager. He’s also involved in a number of sustainability initiatives and actively looking into what the future holds for transport. “While the trailer market has fallen back over the past two years, we’ve grown our market share — we’re a significant player. “It’s a testament to Jeff’s view of the world and an exciting time of opportunity for Adams & Currie as we look forward to meeting the future business needs of transport and construction operators.” 35 Columbia Avenue, Hornby T: (03) 982 3453 www.truckar.co.nz Call in and talk to Matt today.
