Flagstaff director Ben Kidston says, with elevated views, a sunny aspect and relatively flat sections, the development offers a combination that is increasingly difficult to find so close to central Dunedin. Stage 1 has progressed well since its release, he says. “We’ve only got a few sections left in stage 1 now, and it’s been good to see building starting and activity picking up around the subdivision.” Earthworks began early 2025 and titles were issued later in the year, allowing construction to begin. Several national building companies are now involved in the development, offering house-and-land packages as well as constructing show homes within the subdivision, which is helping establish the overall look and feel of the new neighbourhood. Backing on to a protected rural landscape, Flagstaff includes new reserves, native planting, and easy access to a network of walking and cycling trails. The popular Redwood Loop mountain bike park and the network of trails at Ross Creek are a short bike ride from the site, while Balmacewan Golf Course and the Wakari Bowling Club are also nearby. The outdoor opportunities and proximity to the city make the location appealing to a wide range of buyers. “It’s a fantastic location – close to town, close to schools and close to all the amenities of Māori Hill and Roslyn. It’s a really convenient place to live,” says Ben. The subdivision is in-zone for Wakari Primary School and Balmacewan Intermediate, while John McGlashan College, Columba College and St Hilda’s Collegiate are all nearby, with a bus stop just a short walk from the development. The remaining sections vary in size from around 600sqm through to larger sites of more than 1100sqm. The site has a gentle contour with largely flat sections, making for straightforward and cost-effective house builds.
