Led by Jason Bint, the company has built a reputation for delivering high-end homes with exceptional attention to detail, combining craftsmanship, functionality and strong client relationships from concept through to completion. Bespoke Builds is currently bringing three projects to life with the support of its 10- person team, including three fully qualified builders and three apprentices, two in their fourth year and one in their first. Jason’s wife, Jo, is also part of the team in an administration capacity, ensuring all behind-the-scenes operations run smoothly throughout each stage of the build process. The company’s three current projects vary in scale, including one high-end build that has a wide scope of detail. The luxury build, located on Lismore Street, unfolds across three levels, combining features such as a swimming pool and lift, along with well- appointed living areas and three bedrooms. “On that section, previously, was a motel that had been there for 30-odd years,” says Jason. He says, as with this client, people are starting to plan ahead when working with their architect to ensure their home will meet their needs well into the future. “A lift was a must,” he says, referring to one of the elements his client wanted built in. “It was a bit of forward thinking.” Jason’s team is also working on a build for his father-in-law, another client that has incorporated a lift into the design, reflecting a growing trend as this practical feature becomes increasingly affordable for homeowners. While every project presents its own unique challenges, Jason says managing costs remains one of the most consistent pressures across the industry. “By the time those plans are drawn, they are so far out of budget because everything is moving all the time.” Jason says a major focus for Bespoke Builds is providing consistent pricing and helping clients achieve the best-possible outcomes within their budget, often by sourcing alternative products that still deliver the same quality and functionality. “It doesn’t matter what the budget is, it can still be a challenge.” Despite the high-end nature of many Bespoke Builds’ projects, Jason says clients are often favouring simplicity over complex technology, preferring practical features, like the flick of a switch, rather than systems operated entirely through other means, such as an app. Low-maintenance living is also a strong focus among Wanaka homeowners, with durable materials, such as schist cladding, continuing to grow in popularity. Jason says many clients are looking for homes that allow them to spend less time on upkeep and more time enjoying the lifestyle the region is known for, including mountain biking and hiking. Bespoke Builds works closely with clients from start to finish, engaging with both homeowners and architects from the earliest stages of the design process. Jason says that close relationship encourages strong communication throughout the build, and helps ensure projects remain on track, while also giving clients confidence in the team delivering their home. At the heart of the company is what Jason describes as a “real human factor”. “We aren’t just here to send them invoices every month. We know what we need to achieve together.” He says the success of that approach is largely driven by the strength of the Bespoke Builds team, crediting their work ethic and strong working relationships for helping projects run smoothly. Working alongside his staff on the tools each day, Jason says he is fortunate to have an “incredible” group of people around him. “They are awesome to work with. I’m very lucky there.” As the portfolio of architectural homes across Wanaka grows, Bespoke Builds will continue to create homes designed not only for modern living, but for the lifestyle that draws so many people to the area.
