Our growth reflects strong alignment with current market demand, and continued investment across our dealership operations.” Cockram Motor Group (CMG) has a timehonoured track record in Canterbury dating back to the 1940s, and with three new vehicle showrooms coming in 2026, CMG continues to demonstrate a deep commitment to the local market. Opening in April 2026 is CMG Riccarton’s new 500sqm showroom at 41-43 Riccarton Road, where a noted Chinese automobile marque will soon make an entrance. An existing building on the site has been completely gutted and refurbished to provide the smart new space. The selection of a reputable Chinese brand as the star marque is no accident. It highlights CMG’s longstanding, strong industry relationship with leading vehicle importer, Ateco Group NZ, as well as solid local demand for good mid-range vehicles. Australian-brand Crusader Caravans will also be featured at the Riccarton site, complementing CMG Camper’s existing super-site in Sockburn. As the new Riccarton showroom opens, construction of two new showrooms in St Asaph Street will be getting underway – CMG Motors’ exclusive new MG showroom, and Euromarque’s dedicated new BYD showroom. Both showrooms will be dressed to impress, ensuring these premium brands will be displayed at their very best. These latest developments come against a backdrop of significant growth for CMG in the Christchurch market. “We will reach up to 120 staff very shortly and we’re still recruiting for the new site on Riccarton Road,” says John McKenzie, group general manager. “If you look back three or four years, we would have had less than half the staff we employ today. Our growth reflects strong alignment with current market demand, and continued investment across our dealership operations.” The family-owned business is dedicated to providing quality customer service and a genuine dealership experience A prime example of this is the workshop facility located just behind the new CMG Riccarton showroom, which has been set up to provide efficient processing of new car pre-delivery checks. “Our visionary owner has come up with another innovative new service for our customers, too, called Euromarque Towing Solutions,” says John. ”In future, it means if you’re looking at buying a caravan, we can recommend a suitable tow vehicle for you as well.” CMG’s construction partner for the new showrooms is H+M Builders Ltd. Established in 2017, H+M Builders is owned and led by two very experienced builders, Hamish Inch and Matt Stephens, who take pride in being on the tools and crafting every detail to perfection. “We have been using H+M Builders exclusively – Hamish Inch - for a number of years now. We have an excellent business relationship. Hamish does a fantastic job. He’s exceptionally reliable – always on budget and on time.” Meanwhile, John says disruption to fuel supplies in recent weeks has seen a surge in demand for EV and hybrid vehicles. CMG has good options available backed with service and repair. Almost all of CMG’s nine brands have hybrid, plug in hybrid or battery electric options, providing excellent choice for Canterbury car buyers.
