For businesses handling perishable goods, e cient storage is more than just a convenience - it’s a necessity. Leader in industrial racking and storage solutions Dexion has long supported Oceania Dairy in keeping its operations running smoothly, providing innovative solutions that combine safety, scalability and productivity. The solution Dexion provided, the HDS (High Density Storage) Shuttle, is a semi-automated system designed to store and retrieve palletised goods with precision, reducing the reliance on forklifts and increasing overall warehouse e ciency. The system installed at Oceania Dairy comprises three HDS Shuttles managing over 4,000 pallet locations, alongside double-deep racking for 770 pallets of raw materials. Safety has been a key focus, with accessories such as mesh decks, rack bollards and smart guard post protectors integrated throughout. Dexion’s racking is engineered for seismic performance and fully compliant with New Zealand building codes and steel standards, including AS/NZS 1170, NZS3404-2009, AS4084:2023 and HERA. “Our relationship with Oceania Dairy goes back to when the plant was rst built,” says Je Darby, Manager of National Sales & Engineering at Dexion. “Their HDS system is a rst in, rst out storage system. Pallets are loaded from one end and retrieved from the other. The system sits in a block 19 lanes wide, like a massive three-dimensional grid. A shuttle, the size of a pallet and remotely controlled, transports goods with precision. There are four levels in the system, con gured for rst in, rst out, which is ideal for stock rotation, particularly for food products.” He says the HDS Shuttle represents a highly e cient alternative to traditional drive-in racking. By removing the need for forklifts to navigate narrow storage aisles it increases safety for workers and boosts storage capacity, throughput and productivity. The semi-automated design is controlled via a user-friendly RF remote with smart safety sensors ensuring smooth operation and collision avoidance. For Oceania Dairy these e ciencies translate into tangible operational gains: maximised warehouse space, optimised labour use, reduced operational costs and improved stock management. The system is also scalable allowing the plant to adapt seamlessly to changing storage demands. “We continue to work with Oceania Dairy in an ongoing manner making sure their shuttle eet is serviced regularly to ensure their HDS system is working optimally.” Dexion has a long legacy in New Zealand industrial storage dating back to 1937 when founder Demetrius Comino invented the slotted angle shelving system. Today the company continues to o er a wide range of adaptable storage solutions from small part binning and shelving, right through to fully automated, high density pallet racking systems. Each solution is tailored to meet local businesses’ unique requirements, helping clients like Oceania Dairy create safer, more e cient warehouse environments. “Ensuring racking systems are compliant with standards is critical for the safety of workers and goods. At Dexion, safety, e ciency and reliability are at the heart of every solution we provide,” says Je . “With Dexion’s support, Oceania Dairy continues to manage its warehouse operations with precision and e ciency, a model example of how smart storage solutions can transform industrial operations.” REVOLUTIONISING DAIRY STORAGE The HDS Shuttle offers operational efficiencies ideal for the F&B industry
