KT’s Contracting T T Rosa Watson CONTRACTING With its exceptionally wide range of contracting services and landscaping supplies, KT’s Contracting in Methven has a solution for every client. It all began with a Bobcat skid-steer loader in 2000, and since then, KT’s Contracting has expanded to provide residential, agricultural and concreting contracting services. It now also encompasses Methven Landscape Supplies. KT’s gets its name from Kevin Thompson (KT) who, alongside his wife Bridget, saw the demand for small-scale contracting services for lifestyle blocks across the Mid Canterbury region, and it has continued to grow from there. In 2016, Ben and Jenny Thompson took over the family-owned business from Ben’s parents. “We both grew up in Methven and we wanted our children to grow up here too,” Jenny says. KT Contracting’s highly skilled team and its fleet of powerful, compact machinery can handle any job, from small outdoor home improvements to large agricultural projects. Due to the wide range of services they offer, work is very seasonal. “We do a lot of calf shed and covered yard cleaning in the spring and autumn. The busiest time of year is definitely spring and summer with installing lawns, placing concrete, repairing or installing driveways, and the list goes on,” Jenny says.. “We have also been working with another company designing bases for prototype weeping effluent bags. They filter out the liquids, which can then be re-used for washing down milking sheds, saving thousands of litres of water (and dollars) per day. “When we bought the business there was a small landscape supplies yard. Five years ago we decided to re-launch it as Methven Landscape Supplies and it has just grown year-on-year.” As the only supplier of top-quality landscape supplies for residential and commercial projects in Methven, they are extremely busy. “The compost we stock is organic and manure-based; it is not made with green waste,” Jenny says. Winter doesn’t really provide much of a break for the busy team, with a lot of drainage work required. “We also do emergency snow clearing for the local first response places like the medical centre, and we also clear the footpaths around town.” KT’s carry out a lot of contract work, including at High Bank Power station, where they clean the debris screens, mow, spray and hedge trim for the power station. The company also does small concreteplacing jobs like patios. “Building a house, there are a lot of jobs that come after the house is built and the driveway is in,” explains Jenny. “That’s when you might need to put in a small garden shed and do your landscaping, and we can help with all of it. Our small machinery means we can get in and around the houses.” She says the area is doing” pretty well”. “Methven is a place that attracts a lot of people from around New Zealand for the alpine life. “Growing up here we knew everyone, but now there are a lot of people that have made the move here, the town is really bustling.” 85 Main Street, Methven 03 302 9664 Congratulations to the team at KT’s Contracting With over 25 years of experience assisting all types of businesses – big and small. • Specialised Accounting Solutions • Business Planning • Cashflow Management & Forecasting • Taxation Planning • Annual Accounts & Returns • Strategy & Advice • Software Support • Specialist Services Let our team streamline your pathway to profits with clarity and ease. 03 307 2022 | 027 305 3775 | info@lstevensonca.co.nz 8 Park Street, PO Box 263, Ashburton www.lstevensonca.co.nz Proud to support KT's Contracting Ltd
