The Newlands Auto Electrical development was recognised for its high-quality delivery under pressure, while the Tunnel Auto Wash adds another purpose-built service to support the town’s expanding residential and business base. Cohesive Construction general manager, Shaun Boldock, says the project builds on a long-standing relationship with a repeat client and showcases the company’s experience delivering specialist commercial facilities. “Having successfully completed multiple Tunnel Wash developments, we were able to bring proven capability in both design coordination and construction delivery,” Shaun says. “We managed the build from start to finish, working closely with our client and specialist suppliers to deliver a facility that meets both operational requirements and brand standards.” The project was delivered on a constrained site, with construction activity taking place simultaneously on an adjoining section. Managing access, safety, and sequencing required careful planning and close collaboration between all parties involved. Detailed preparation and strong communication were critical to maintaining progress throughout the build. “Key installation phases and plant movements were carefully coordinated to minimise disruption, while regular communication ensured everyone remained aligned throughout the programme.” Shaun says continued investment in commercial developments and infrastructure is essential as Rolleston and the wider Selwyn district experience ongoing population growth. “Well-executed developments not only meet immediate demand, but also contribute to the long-term resilience and livability of the community.” The project also highlights Cohesive Construction’s ability to consistently deliver repeat commercial developments while adapting to challenging site conditions and tight construction programmes. That capability has also been recognised not only through its success at the 2026 Commercial Project Awards, where Cohesive Construction secured a Gold award, but also with Silver awards for Supply Chain Solutions in Hornby and Auto Wash Ravenswood. The award-winning Newlands Auto Electrical project involved delivering a purpose-built facility comprising a 335sqm workshop, tool room and parts store, 220sqm of office and amenity space, and a 290sqm showroom. Constructed under a design-and-build model, the project faced a demanding programme driven by a fixed lease expiry date. Early groundworks challenges and supply chain pressures required trades to be carefully re-sequenced while maintaining programme certainty for the client. Structural works, including the slab, framing, and tilt panels, were completed within just three weeks, allowing Newlands Auto Electrical to transition seamlessly into its new premises. Shaun says the recognition reflects the collaborative approach taken across all projects. “Winning across multiple categories is a credit to our clients, consultants, subcontractors, and wider team, who continue to deliver high-quality outcomes in a challenging construction environment.”
