Frank’s urban design and landscape architecture role has included input into the neighbourhood structure, street hierarchy, open-space and movement network, public-facing edges, reserve interfaces, landscape strategy and how future homes address streets and open spaces. The result is a thoughtfully planned neighbourhood of tree-lined streets, open spaces and walkable connections, designed for long-term living. “I’ve been embedded throughout the masterplanning process, working closely with McConnell Property and the wider project team,” says Frank. “One of the key priorities has been creating a strong and legible visual and physical connection from Johns Road through the neighbourhood to Westbury’s southern reserve and lake precinct. The boulevard treatment provides a clear backbone for the neighbourhood and establishes a strong landscape character.” The central boulevard’s rows of trees have been carefully selected to provide structure, shade and seasonal colour from spring through to autumn. Westbury’s southern reserve and lake area will include meandering paths, ecological planting, open grass areas, seating and specimen trees, enabling future residents to relax, connect and enjoy their community. “The landscape response is integral to how the neighbourhood will be experienced. It supports stormwater and biodiversity outcomes, provides amenity for residents and gives Westbury a stronger sense of place.” Everyday details have also been considered, from street lighting and pedestrian experience through to reserve edges, fencing, street tree placement and how future homes address the street and open-space network.
