A love of gardening and the natural environment runs deep in the McConnell family. David’s mother, Beverley, established one of New Zealand’s bestknown gardens, Ayrlies Garden & Wetlands in Whitford, Auckland. The family passion for green space and considered planting will be in evidence at Westbury, where a tree-lined boulevard is being established to create a beautiful sense of arrival and welcome. “Westbury will have a very well-integrated look and feel between the public and private realm, so people can take pride in their properties,” says Nick. Stage 1a at Westbury has already nearly sold out, with preferred building partners in place to help deliver the vision. A public launch will commence in earnest once civil works and construction gets underway in early November. McConnell Property has built a reputation for integrity, and as a family business, has a preference for working with others with similar aspirations around creating better places to live and work. “We’re excited to be forming relationships with local contractors in North Canterbury and we’re really impressed with the level of skills we’re seeing in the region,” says Nick. This coming summer will bring a flurry of construction activity as first-stage construction with 95 lots gets into full swing, with completion expected by mid-2027, followed by the release of titles. Construction of stage 2, with 129 sections, is due to commence in the summer of 2027/28. A variety of section sizes are being created to support a range of housing needs for young families through to professionals and downsizers. Westbury combines space with ease of modern living. Rangiora’s shops and eateries are close by and the location is only 20 minutes north of Christchurch. “Westbury is on the rural edge of town, so you can stand on-site and see mountains in the distance, yet you’re so close to town,” says Nick. “We’re not just designing sections here – we’re creating a neighbourhood built around space, quality and long-term liveability.”
