BUILDING Winning ways in Wanaka The 2026 winning home feature schist and dark metal cladding, with a curved wall vertical timber providing a distinctive contrast. T T Karen Phelps For Bayview Construction, success at the 2026 Registered Master Builders House of the Year awards is the latest chapter in a story that has been built steadily over several years. The Wānaka-based construction company has again demonstrated the quality of its workmanship, securing a Regional Gold Award and a place in the national Top 100 for a striking 417sqm home in the Southern Competition’s Resene New Home $2m-$4m category. The result adds to a run of awards dating back to 2022, highlighting the consistency of the standards achieved by Bayview Construction across a diverse range of high-end homes. “The awards are a reflection of the team’s commitment to quality and attention to detail,” says Bayview Construction director, Lloyd Nolan. Owned and directed by Lloyd Nolan and Tom Anderson, Bayview Construction combines decades of local and trans-Tasman building experience, with a focus on new builds, renovations, commercial projects and hardscaping. The 2026 winning home combines clean architectural lines and strong forms with schist and dark metal cladding, with a curved wall of vertical timber providing a distinctive contrast. The sweeping feature begins outside, where it forms a sheltered courtyard, before continuing inside as a dramatic two-level wall incorporating the staircase. Inside, the 417sqm home has been designed around family living with an L-shaped open-plan kitchen, dining and living area complemented by a scullery, panelled timber ceiling and extensive glazing overlooking the lake. The home also includes a separate media room, main bedroom suite, office, laundry, powder room and four-car garage. Fireplaces and heat pumps provide comfort through Central Otago’s extremes of summer and winter. Another 2026 project also received Regional Gold in the Bunnings New Home $1m-$1.5 million category. Built on a 503sqm Wānaka site, the 243sqm home uses a series of angles to maximise the restricted building platform and capture mountain and lake views. In 2024 Bayview Construction received Regional Gold and a Top 100 national placing for a 337sqm Wānaka home in the Carters New Home $1m-$1.5 million category. The home was designed around panoramic views, low maintenance and energy efficiency, with reclaimed Australian hardwood cladding and a MaxRaft slab. The 2023 awards saw it win Regional Silver for a 237sqm lake house, where Bayview Construction delivered a detailed brief on a narrow section and tight budget, completing the project on time and on budget, despite lockdown-related material shortages and price increases. In 2022, the company achieved Regional Gold and Regional Category winner as well as a Top 100 national placing for a 337sqm luxury lakeside home in the New Home $1.5m-$2m category. Lloyd says the awards have also recognised the people behind the builds. Bayview Construction’s team includes licensed building practitioners, trade-qualified builders and BCITO apprentices, with apprentices themselves earning accolades in the Registered Master Builders Apprentice of the Year competition. “It is particularly rewarding to see the recognition extend across different projects and different members of the team,” says Lloyd. 0800 BESPOKE bespokearchitecture.co.nz 2026 Best Design Awards Finalist - Residential Architecture Multiresidential - Warren Residences, Wanaka 2026 ADNZ Awards Regional Award Winner Warren Residences, Wanaka RESIDENTIAL COMMERCIAL INTERIORS RESIDENTIAL & COMMERCIAL We proudly support Bayview Construction. 03 470 1990 steadfastjoinery.co.nz RESIDENTIAL & COMMERCIAL We proudly support Bayview Construction. 03 470 1990 steadfastjoinery.co.nz
