Founded by Matt and Janine Thomas in 2016, the family-owned-and-operated business has built a reputation across the region for high-quality new homes, architectural builds, renovations, alterations and heritage restoration. Its latest success came at the 2026 Master Builders House of the Year Awards, where a complex renovation in the $1 million-$2 million category earned a Regional Supreme Renovation of the Year Award, a Regional Category Winner Award, a Regional Plumbing World Bathroom Excellence Award and a Regional Gold Award. The project was also named in the national Top 100. The winning renovation involved breathing new life into an old villa and retaining the character that made the property special. “Adding 50 square metres of space, including a two-bedroom extension, transformed the home while still respecting its original DNA,” says Janine. The project brought some significant challenges, including foundations and walls that required a complete rebuild. Despite the extent of the work, original features such as deep skirting boards, cornices and ceiling roses were retained. The result was a light and open home that combined modern living with its heritage character. A luxury bathroom, new ensuite, newly built kitchen and dining area, sheltered patio and expansive decking with an outdoor fireplace created a home designed as much for entertaining as for everyday life. The recent awards add to a history of success for You Build. In 2023 it won a Gold Award, a Silver Award and a Regional Category Award and in 2021 a Gold Award, was a Regional Category winner and won a Regional Lifestyle Kitchen Award.
