Traverse Group: Tui Drive Subdivision REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT A North Island-based family-owned land development company has made an entry into the Top of the South, with an upmarket subdivision in Picton. Traverse Group has taken over the Tui Drive development in Waikawa, opening stage 2 with an impressive 12 sections amongst the bush line being released to the market. Featuring elevated north-west views, the subdivision has a backdrop of native flora and an abundance of birdlife, and is close to Waikawa Bay – just five minutes from Picton. Sites vary from 485sqm to 740sqm and have the potential to be built up to three storeys, enabling clients to build for elevation and maximum views. The Traverse Group is owned by Paul and Bitten Fearon, who live in Puhoi with their extended family – son Kent is the company general manager and daughter Kari is in marketing. Kent’s wife Kelly focuses on the administration and investments, and together the family enjoy fostering a sense of community connection with their developments – just as they have in Puhoi where it all started. “We put a real focus on beautiful living environments, and historically have always been interested in rural properties, but now we’re moving into urban sites as well,” Kari says. There are also developments in Kerikeri and Ngunguru, but the Waikawa Bay project marks the first step into the South Island. Kari says part of the reason for choosing Picton was the redevelopment of the Top of the South tourist town, with plans underway for a new commercial wharf enabling larger ferries between the South and North islands. Aiming for titles in mid-2026, local real estate company Ray White is marketing the Tui Drive sections. Fencing is up on-site, and the developers are almost ready to break ground.
