CS Roofing Canterbury CONTRACTING CS Roofing Canterbury Ltd is proud to have been acknowledged at this year’s RANZ Roofing Awards after being picked as one of only three finalists for 2025 Commercial Roof of the Year. The RANZ Awards recognise outstanding achievement, leadership and craftsmanship across the roofing industry. Their project was described as outstanding, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship through collaboration and innovative installation. This project arose as a result of CS Roofing Canterbury’s subsidiary company, True Fold Ltd, needing more space for manufacturing high-quality flashings, gutters and custom roofing solutions. Purpose-built premises – comprising a 780sqm warehouse space for the True Fold team, complemented by an adjoining 244sqm office base for CS Roofing Canterbury – were developed in Factory Drive, Rolleston. “We moved in a year ago,” says project manager Ken Balvers. “It’s a brand-new site. Hanham & Philp Contractors constructed the new building, while CS Roofing Canterbury looked after the roofing and wall cladding side as well as the zinc panel feature wall at the front.” A standout aspect of these new premises is the striking wall cladding on the office facilities, which highlights the products and installation techniques of both companies. All cladding product was manufactured and supplied by True Fold, with installation overseen by CS Roofing’s senior architectural tray installer, Dustan Van Biljon. The eye-catching cladding design features random width low-gloss angle seam trays in a handsome Windsor Grey, along with randomly angled tray ribs. Ken remembers hand drawing the distinctive angled design that then fell to Dustan to install. “It was a real challenge for him, but he really embraced it. We have entered him in the 2025 COLORSTEEL® Awards as well, with judging now underway [as of early August]. To complete the installation, he used hidden fixing techniques. Everything was installed as expertly as if it had been done by a European craftsman. It all laps the correct way, the lines at the bottom are straight and even, and it’s completely waterproofed by design.” Symmetrical narrow-width trays in contrasting Tidal Drift Matte were used above and below the windows to mimic vertical shiplap boarding. Tidal Drift is a beautiful, nuanced colour that seems to subtly change depending on light levels and the angle of perspective. Not only is cladding like this aesthetically pleasing, but also maintenance free.
